Last Hunting season I used my M&P 10. I go to Maine east of Bangor. I didn't have a issue lugging this beast around at all. I had it slung from a 1 point magpul sling. I had to modify my 10 round DPMS magazine to only hold 5 rounds (Maine hunting law). Took a shot at a nice buck around 175 yards with a scope sighted in at only 50 yards... rookie mistake. It was my first hunting season and I can't wait until November to head back up and tag that son of a b!&$#. Anyone else hunt with there M&P 10?

No for mine with no plans to in the future. Have bolt actions for hunting. If I had to, I sure wouldn't hesitate with the right bullets. Good luck on your next hunt!

Welll, my 308AR is not a S&W, it's a BM. But yes, I hunt hogs with it. For that application, it works really well. We usually hunt them at night, thru fields and brush. Easy enough to pack and run with; while it's a lot heavier than a 30-06 bolt rifle...... there is something to be said for having enough rounds at hand to put the hurt on an entire sounder. I have hunted it on NV, on thermal, with a 6x scope and moonlight, and spotlighting hogs after we find them with a thermal scan of an open field, and we creep up on them.
The one thing I rarely get to do is hammer down into a sounder at close range. We hunt in pairs, and you need to be sure you don't leave your shooting zone under any circumstances. So...... it's one to 3 shots, depending on how many and how close, and especially depending on what direction they run once you start making noise.

More than once, they have run panicked right into us or right thru us. You don't get much of a chance to take a shot on a hog like that unless you are VERY QUICK with a pistol, and don't mind dropping the rifle like it was on fire.

I did last fall. I took a doe at about 75 yards with 150 bonded JHP ammo. No issues. Broadside shot, dropped her in her tracks. V16 AO Weaver scope. I have a "G" SD-E trigger to install for this falls hunting adventures. Used a Magpul 10 round magazine. I took the flash hider off and have been using a thread protector. Zero at 200 yards. Magpul STR butstock, MIAD grip and MOE handguard, all FDE. Two point sling. I like it!

I would love to take it hunting pigs or coyotes but I don't have a place to hunt them.

I'm in Virginia near Roanoke. I have a friend that said he wanted me to shoot some coyotes on his farm but haven't heard from him in awhile.

You should have some good opportunities for hunting yotes there. Is that area shotgun only for deer? I am only semi- familiar with the tidewater area's hunting/ Rappahannock area.

Little Creek, what brand thread protector did you get? My rifle's set up for hunting, and it seems like a good way to shave a few ounces.
Thanks,

Thanks,

I do not remember. I bought it from Brownells. I bought two and put the other one on my Ruger GSR. It also reduces the OAL by about 2.75".

I'm not a hunter but we have a rifle and bow season in most areas. I'm not sure when shotgun season is. It may be during rifle season. If I do get to go 'yote hunting I'll have to check the regulations.

:D Ihave own my mp10 for 2 yrs and Ive hunted hogs in Fl and deer in Va. I live next to Roanoke at Smith Mnt Lake and its a good rifle a little on the heavy side but My 700 rem with a bull barrel is about same weight I killed a nice buck at 143 yds and he dropped like a ton of bricks so yes if you want to hunt with it its a great rifle Im old 65 so 300 yds is my max

Hunting with M&P10

My 10 was 3 for 3 last season hunting whitetail. The longest shot was 160 yards on a Sanora, Tx Axis doe. I've been using the Hornady 150 gr InterLock SP Whitetail ammo. The gun shoots consistent 1" groups at 100 yds. using a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 BDC scope.

I hunt with my M&P10 308 in Georgia, I use a Vortex Sparc red dot. This time of year most shots in the Ga. woods are about 25-50yrds, 70 max.Using the red dot makes it easy. Or I can use the Troy flip up battle sights.
I have a Troy battle sling on mine to carry it in and out of the woods.
I shoot Hornady 150 interlock whitetail ammo

I just finished up a short hunt here in central california where i got a nice little 3x2 mule deer at about 160 lbs. I am now 30 yrs old and I've been hunting with the same compact remington .243 since i was only 10 years old. by now the rifle is too small for me and I've been thinking about what to replace it with.

I have narrowed it down to either a Rem. 700 .308 with some kind of lightweight stock, a Tikka T3 Lite also in .308 or possibly the S&W M&P10. One reason I like the idea of the M&P10 is because I am a left-handed shooter and I have always struggled to shoot a right-handed rifle.

I could get a left-handed bolt action in Remington or Tikka sure they both produce lefties, but there is extra cost associated with that. However I have read that the M&P10 is set up to be very ambidextrous from the factory so that's what's attracting me to it. I haven't decided yet but I am definitely going to keep an eye on these forums and if a lot of people say that they find their M&P suitable for hunting I think that would surely make me decide to go with the M&P.

I'm getting depressed reading all this so I'm going to lay off until after deer season. I have a lemon that won't group better than 4 MOA. Been out to the range four times in the last week and a half and I'll have to make one more trip to sight in the bolt gun.
