I was introduced to this style of shot bag,... or hunting pouch when first getting involved with smoothbore flintlocks. It is every bit as useful for a modern shotgunner as a 1700's fowler...:)

Way to much work into this one. Cut patterns that make it a tapered gusseted bag with welts. That is some hard hand stitching. Bag is reversed while being sewn up then soaked in a tub of warm water in order to punch it right side out. Stained then wax finished. Sinew was used for all the stitching. It has three pockets sewn in and a 3" belt loop.

That's a really nice bag Giz. Any idea of when/where is has made?

Also, what's the other gadget it's sitting on?

Belt bags of this type show up with the revival of the Flintlock in the 1930's. The gun was archaic, and yet groups of preservationists embraced its form and for generations have slowly brought the gun back into the fringes of mainstream. Virtually none are known in the historic record of the 18th century in the Colonies, of domestic production.

As to the old hibachi....well :)

I am a hoarder, and as used up and distressed as it is.... Stuff just looks so cool photographed on it...

Great to hear from you, my old Amigo.... Best of Thangs Given to you and yours!!! :D
