*I* 40 S&W brass

What would be a fair price to pay for once fired *I* headstamp 40 S&W brass? Say, per 50 pieces.

Since you haven't gotten any love here, I'll take a stab.

Assuming the *I* headstamp isn't something special.

I really think you'd be doing well to get .04 or .05 per case, shipped, in any quantity. 40 cal brass just doesn't seem to bring much when I see it offered.

Sorry for the gloomy outlook ... Maybe I'm wrong.

It should have been expressed as *-*, or spelled out Starline. Then others wouldn't have been confused. Once fired handgun brass usually runs 6-10 cents per case, so about $3 to $5 for 50.

$35-40 shipped for a post office medium flat rate box is about right for 40 S&W. Reduce it from there for smaller amounts.

If you saw 50 nickels laying on the ground, would you pick them up or walk past? That is the question. :)

But 98% of people want nickels, while only .98% of people want 40 cal brass. Those are verified statistics, freshly made up.

I've got a suspicion that fewer 40 cal shooters reload than other calibers. Then factor in that police ranges probably generate tons of once fired brass and I think those reasons keep the price down.

I believe it's the letter I and not a dash, which is Independence, also known as Magtech. I have some .45 ACP and it's good stuff.

Yes, it is the letter "I". I researched it a little bit online. It is Independence. From what people are saying, it is good brass. I have a large baggy full of it. I will never use it. I want to sell it and am just trying to come up with a fair price. Will list it in Classifieds here. Not trying to get rich, would just rather see it get used.

You can get 100 new cases from Midway for $28 plus shipping. For 100 once fired I wouldn't ask for more than $25 shipped, and that would be a tough sell.

John

For reference, 500 Starline are .23/case shipped.

Maybe OP could count out however many will fit in a small flat rate box and price it from there. I definitely see it sell in different classifieds. The last I bought was a medium flat rate box full of range pickup brass for $40, which was a bargain.

It makes no difference if it is Winchester, Federal, CCI, Starline or any other top quality brand of brass, you have been given valid answers several times as to value! If you only have 50 rounds as you originally stated it is not worth the cost to ship it, even by USPS. You will be money and time ahead to just give it to a friend or someone at the range. Either that or just throw it away. Or you could take it to a local gun shop that sells once-fired brass and they will, maybe, offer you $1-2for the lot.

And, BTW, The following link will take you to the Federal Independence web site if you really want to know about the brand: Federal Independence Ammo Review: Stars, Stripes, and FMJ's

I did not state that I had 50 rounds. I have more than that. Please reread my post. Nowhere did I state how much I had.

Edit - I did state in Post #9 that I had "a large baggy full". I will count it, when I get a chance, but it's definitely more than 50. Thanks.

In 1989 I bought a new 4006.....Vendor gave me 1 ea 20 rd box of Winchester hollow points. Wouldn't sell me the second because it went with the other 4006 on the table.
For the longest time I made my own 40 S&W brass from 10mm casings. Cuz there was ZERO/NO 40 S&W brass or ammo available. I trimmed. Inside case neck reamed.......And I loaded and shot away. Never had any problems and was happy. This went on for many months until other mfg'er's got on board and started making 40 cal ammo. Now I have excesses of 40 brass. Still cast for and load for my 2ea 40's.......Liked the 40 in 1989......Still like it today

99.8% of LE brass(all calibers) are swept up and sold for scrap to recyclers.

I've been shooting 40 S&W since 2007. The only "brass" I've purchased was the two boxes of factory ammo I purchased when I bought the CW40 (long since replaces with a couple M&P 40). However I have a couple thousand reloads on hand from range pick-up brass that I've accumulated over the years. If you have a few hundred brass it is probably worth selling but shipping cost will hurt.

As a reference, North East shooter supply has 500 cleaned and processed mixed brass 40 cal shipped for $36.99.

It really is not worth much of anything if you have to ship it. Regardless of the amount.
I have 5 gal buckets of it. Could go to my range and pick up 100's of once fired.

funny, I was sorting some 9mm brass last night and found that same head stamp *I* on it. I should have taken a picture.
