I am only sharing my reasons for doing so. Your opinion is your opinion.
Two months ago I went to my LGS to buy a P320 in 40 s&w. I'm not Sig fanboy at all whatsoever. I enjoy my p226(9mm) and my p227(45) and they are both in my carry rotation. My p227 is the night stand gun and it probably won't ever change. I know it seems counterproductive to carry And train with two completely different trigger systems But it works for me.
My first m&p was a used 45, with what seemed a very low round count, I bought at a pawn shop. The frame was cerakoted, had trijicon night sights, and a full apex fss upgrade. Loved it and it shot beautifully. A few months down the road I traded it for a P226 brand new and while not a bad trade, I regretted it. I've learned not to trade guns anymore.
Anyway, I love how the m&ps shoot, the ergos, and believe it or not the white dot sights(will soon be switched to trijicons). With the new trigger(manufactured May 2015) I believe it is a pretty good out-of-the-box trigger. It handles the 40 impressively for a polymer gun. Bore axis is a subjective matter because it is a very minute thing to worry about for 90% of all shooters. The only thing I hate, and will continue to hate is the hinged trigger. I had an m&p 9 as well. It was an 06 model from the same pawn shop. From all the reviews of earlier m&p 9s, I sold it without ever shooting it. Don't regret it except I wish I would have shot it.
Now on to the p320. It's a great gun with good ergos and a fantastic trigger. As much as I like sigs, and will probably a 320 eventually, this really isn't for me. The modularity doesn't appeal to me because I carry and shoot full size only. I Live in Florida so my gun laws are pretty lenient and not very much around, besides open carry.
With that being said, the modularity does not appeal to me. Bore axis is not an issue since I shoot my sigs accurately at 7-25 yards. It fit my hands fine. And obviously I do not have to use the modularity.
As for the M&P, I know the platform and how it functions. I enjoy shooting them and carrying them. Weight is also a non issue since handguns shouldn't bother you at all whatsoever. I do know what its like to carry weapons all day long wearing more gear than any LEO will. My fiancee enjoys shooting the m&p as well since she has small hands and can reach the trigger easier than on a da/sa Sig.
As for shooting both in 40, the m&p was definitely a softer shoot. Never shot either in 9mm.
Sig
-modularity is the major thing about it
- Good trigger and reset
- Bore axis(if you care)
- it's a sig, but they let their finish suffer on the 320 from what I hear
- I don't know the platform(but will one day)
- same trigger pull each time
M&P
-little to no modularity(can anyone clear this up for me for fs and compact if there is any?
- New trigger is good and reset is decent enough
-low bore axis(subjective)
- finish seems to be better on m&p
- same trigger pull each time(again, subjective)
-future wife can reach trigger easier lol
- I know the platform
- I can't release the sear by pulling trigger on 2015 model. HAVE to use the lever
I don't have any pros or cons. Take it as you will and apologies for this really long post!
