I'm well served by my 3913. I've carried it pretty steadily both on and off duty for the last seven years.

It's simply a perfect carry gun. Slim, light, accurate, bet your life reliable and looks good doing all that.

But its darker sister the 3914 has had me in lust for years. I've never come across a clean enough specimen at the right price though. I've even had a picture of a 3914 as my screen saver for the last six months. You fellas get like that over a nice pistol? ;)

I also want a particular version. I want the flat slide stop and slimmed down decockers. I also want the Smith & Wesson roll marks at the front of the slide with the "5 line" roll mark behind it.

There is a gunshow in Winston Salem this weekend. I think I'll pack a 640-1 as trade bait and see if I can find a nice 3914 over there. Its a small show but I've pulled some pretty rare guns out of it. It's not that I NEED another 39 series pistol.......but I sure do WANT one! :)

Anyone in NC has a 3914 that fits my description and would like to find it a nice home, PM me and maybe we can meet up at the show! ;) Regards 18DAI

Shameless! All the guns you have and you have to resort to this...

Good luck with your search! :) They are nice guns, and no, I don't have one. (that I will sell :D)

:) Are you going to the show M29since14??

Theres a fellow there the last couple of shows who always has one or two 3rd gen S&W pistols. Of course, I decided to walk the show first and missed out on a NIB 6904 last time.

I've got a feeling that there will be lots of people trying to get that Shield pistol and letting some very nice 9mm's go in the process! ;) Heres hoping! Regards 18DAI

18DAI, we must think alot alike. Previously all of my 3rd gens have been the stainless slide variation. Recently, I've gotten lucky and found a couple of black guns with original boxes and very little rounds shot if any. The 3914 is late 88 or early 89 production with the old slide and narrow barrel hood. The 6904 is actually in newer condition than the 3914. Good luck in your search or dream.

No, sir, I am not, so there will be no competition from me! But I do wish you good luck. ;)

I will be going another direction this weekend to meet up with an old revolver shooting friend and some of his buddies. Not planning on buying anything - just "shooting the breeze." :)

Hi 18DAI

At first I searched desperately for a nice 3913, couldn't find one and had to "compromise" with 3914.
But today I'm in love ... will not trade it for anything else (perhaps for a nice 3914tsw :) )

good luck with your quest ;)

p.s. Sorry but I had to post a picture of my beauty...
It had a slimmed down decocker, but I changed it to a 3904 right hand only.

I have 17 handguns in my safe. Do I need all of them?
Uhhhh....I don't think so. I can only shoot one at a time.
The fact that you want another one is justification enough.
Some folks collect classic cars. Collecting guns is cheaper.

Those are beauties fellas! Your not helping me abstain! ;)

I'm looking for one just like kcode and m1976 have. I did notice something interesting with the 3913 and 3914's.

Some of the early production - 1989 guns - have the two line Smith & Wesson roll mark centered and no "5 line" marcas registradas ect. Others - some even with 1990 and 1991 serial prefix have the Smith & Wesson rollmark twards the muzzle and the 5 line right behind it. Interesting. I wonder why? Regards 18DAI

Once you go black ...well, you know the rest.

Questioning the desire for another 3rd Gen is like interrogating a Tornado. Some phenomena are beyond the reach of logic and rational discussion.

"I don't need another but I want it."

That should be the official motto of this forum.

I just did the opposite of what 8DAI is trying to do. Last week I bought a 3913 to go with my 3914. I even sold a M&P9c to pay for it.

I really need to stop.

Really.

I have two new S&W N Frames in 41mag and i want more. I'm glad i'm not alone. When the price is right there hard to pass up. BTW, I have two cz82's and one cz83 in 9mm mak.

I feel the same way about a current production 3913TSW, preferably with the pot metal accessory rail removed.

I'd even settle for a current production 3914TSW, but the production is more limited.

I do believe it's right that you're probably going to have to find a very early production 3914 in order to get the flatter slide stop lever & manual safety assemblies ... but when discussing S&W it's wise to "never say never". They've been known to slip different parts into guns for production, seemingly with no discernible reason.

For example, I bought a late-90's 3913 (MIM, wide barrel tab/breech face, etc) ... but the slide had been machined to accept the spring-loaded, decock-only optional assembly, which was then something that was still fairly new (and we were told was then pretty much being limited to LE customers for a while).

I called and asked some folks why that particular 3913 slide had been machined for the spring-loaded decocker (since even the "original" TSW's weren't yet receiving it as part of the standard manufacturing process), but nobody I could find claimed to have any idea why I'd gotten so lucky.

So, if you stumble across a uniquely produced 3914; a special order, an "original" 3914TSW, or a newer one without the rail ... don't look a gift horse in the mouth. ;)

Luck to you!

The black used in S&W autos looks like paint, and not the deep blueing we've come to love in a S&W revolver. For some reason, black S&W's look wrong to me, like stainless SIG's look wrong to me. I had a 915 in great shape that i just couldn't warm up to, so I sold it for a 5906!

silversmok3,

Is that top pistol a 6906? Looks like one, but I've never seen one with sights like that'n. Got a clear close-up pic? Hint, hint! :)

I sure hope not. It was a 5903 at the time of the photo!

(checks bedside pistol)

Yup, still a 5903.

My tastes trend toward the larger models of the S&W legacy 9mms. That said, I'd take a compact 3rd gen over any of the dark bars of soap gunmakers are cranking out today.

Buy it! You won't be happy until you do...or at least that's what I told myself last week when I bought another 4506-1! It's nice to have a backup to a backup to a backup. You never know, you might "need" a second, third or even fourth of the same gun! :D

Here's mine - shipped in '93. Not quite the variation you are interested in but this one sees more use than my 3913. Hope you find one soon!
