Hello again everyone. After almost six months of reading, learning, looking, and shooting...I finally bought my first handgun. No, it is not a S&W, it is a Ruger. I bought a brand new Ruger SR9C. I looked at several brands and guns and liked this gun the best. With guns being hard to find and ammo even harder to find I was shocked when my LGS had several guns in stock for me to pick from. I got this gun as you see it here for $439 out the door. I have not shot my new gun yet and will clean it/oil it before I do so. I hope to go shoot it tomorrow as the LGS has plenty 9mm ammo in stock. Thank you all for the help, encouragement, and support over these many months. I know it is not a S&W but it is made in the USA and I am happy about that fact.

Glad to hear you finally were able to get a gun.

I really like my LCR. No regrets picking it over the 442.

Go enjoy it.

Now.........what to do about a holster?

Congrats on your first gun.
I'm sure you'll love it. Rugers are solid firearms.

Very cool! I think Ruger has a mighty fine line up. The SR9C has some serious street cred. in a very competitive market.

I bought a couple Rugers in the last few months too (SP101 4.2" in .357 and an SR22). Love 'em both.

Send a box or two down range and tell us what you think!

Ahhh the Ruger. My first gun! I had the P89 or was it 85. Either way it was a 9mm back in 01. Wasnt bad. Enjoy!

Not bad at all!

I owned an SR40c for a while but sold it since it felt like a brick at the end of a day carying it IWB appendix. It was a very nice shooter though.

Congratulations on your first gun purchase!! Being a Ruger, it will give you many years of service. I own several Rugers and love them all.

Now, go shoot and enjoy!!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!:D

Nothing wrong with Rugers, I own 3 myself.
Plus you have a decent caliber.

Good luck with it and enjoy yourself.

Why specifically did you choose that model? Just curious.

I'd have bought a GP-100 (four-inch bbl.) or SP-101 (with the three-inch bbl.) . Or, handpicked a used S&W K-frame .38 or .357 in stainless.

In an auto, I'd buy a CZ-75B or Beretta M-92FS. I don't like striker-fired autos. But I suspect that it'll serve you well. And Ruger stands behind their merchandise.

My first handgun was a Webley MK VI, and I was 13. Mother signed the paperwork. If I'd had more money and known what I did later, it'd have been a four-inch barreled M-19. (Model 66 was years in the future.) But the Webley was a good gun with an illustrious reputation.

Perhaps it was the gun that he wanted and not what you wanted?

I was seriously considering buying a SR9C and read good reviews on it; small enough to carry or use the extension on the mag and the trigger is suppose to be excellent. The only thing preventing me from buying it was that it is polymer but then again I'm contemplating getting a concealed license and weight is a consideration for me.

Ruger makes good guns, and they have excellent customer service, should you ever need it. I've owned several of the SR series pistols myself, including an SR9 and an SR9c.

The magazine disconnect is extremely easy to remove on these guns...as it is to remove the striker and clean out the channel. All in all, a very easy gun to maintain.

Congratulations!

Congrats on your first handgun!! My bet is you will get many years of enjoyment out of your new Ruger. I too own one, a P345 and have a couple thousand rounds thru it, never a single problem and really easy to take down and clean. Enjoy.

Congrats! I have an SR9c as well and it's a wonderful pistol. Good for concealed carry, good for range fun. It is accurate and should eat anything you feed it. It does have a pretty stiff spring...racking the slide can be a little tough for some...but it makes it surprisingly soft shooting.

It's a great little gun. But it doesn't have the soul of a Model 10. :). Then again, what does?

Congratulations on your first gun. You picked a good one from a good company. It is lightweight and hard hitting. If you haven't already, get a good holster and get your concealed carry license. I suggest a .22 rimfire for your next gun.

I still have the first gun I ever bought 47 years ago, a Colt Woodsman .22 automatic.
