I do not own any safe queens. EVERYTHING I own I shoot, at least a little bit. From time to time I come across something I would like to have but am unwilling to shoot.

Today I dropped in on my favorite LGS/Range and they showed me a PRISTINE Model 27 blue factory 5" with original box they just got in. $2k. A lot of money. Probably worth it, just not to me. By the time I would have put a half a box of shells thru it it would drop 25% or more in value.

If anybody is interested it is at Barnwood Arms in Ripon, CA. It is going to go up on their web site pretty soon.

If it is mint with all the goodies included, would be something to consider at that price point. Maybe the LGS/Range would accept a lessor offer???

Two weeks ago a swapped a nickel m37 in mint condition but fired to a friend with a new unfired 1953 32 Colt Cobra. It is pristine and he and I were happy with an even sway.

I’m afraid I can’t keep anything I don’t shoot so I’ve had it out twice and put about a hundred rounds through it and it still looks like new. A friend criticized my decision but it’s mine and I love shooting those old classics. And like a post earlier in a few years it’ll be worth 25% more.

It’s possible someone else has shot it and cleaned it well, so that it still looks new. You can do the same. Ain’t gonna hurt the value. If you want it, buy it.

1962 M19

I bought my M-19 in 1962, I shot the living HE double toothpicks out of it the first 5 years I owned it, I don't shoot as much as I used to but I took care of my 19, never saw a holster just carry cases, kept it cleaned and oiled and it looks as good today as the day I bought it. In '62 it was a fairly expensive revolver ($92), I was an AirForce A1C getting paid $160 a month.

The only gun I would not shoot is an unfired one. I only have a couple but my oldest one is a Regulation Police .32 from the 1920's. No way that's getting shot.

The OP said it clearly, it’s not worth it to him. I don’t blame him. Not to me either. Anything’s only worth so much to any given person, but no doubt someone will buy it for the price asked. The world we live in. :o

VALUE.......Is The enjoyment you get out of it ......Not the cost. I shoot all my 27's.....When I die........Who cares?

I want them all.
Every barrel length, every finish. Multiples! Shooters and mint collectibles.

I had a similar moment with a vintage Winchester lever-action. It was a beauty, but I couldn't bear the thought of scratching it up in the field. The value isn't just in dollars for me, it's in the memories you create with it.

Unfired guns are the ones I shoot first. I only buy pristine guns. Then I shoot the **** out of them.

When I die my heirs will shoot them, or sell them to a dealer at 50 cents on the dollar, so why shouldn't I have the enjoyment first.

My 401K and such make a pittance in income and it is what it is. That's spending money. But my guns will be with me until I die, so I have no vested interest in them.

Besides, if I shot that NIB pre 27 until the cows came home, realistically how much money would I lose? Haha....BTDT and she still looks like new.

Buy it and shoot it. If you don't shoot it, the next owner will.

My opinion, too. When I recently got that beautiful beyond any car I’ve owned model 57, which the previous owner never shot many years he owned it, I shot the danged thing. I feel better for it inside and better for the gun’s soul. It cleans up beautifully!

I'm in agreement with the OP. I would not buy an out of production, collectable, NIB firearm with the intention of shooting it. There are plenty of older, shooter grade firearms out there.
