Hello guys:

I have not had the opportunity to get to the range since picking up my 4506-1 so I have a question.

(1) If you have the de-cocker lever in the de-cock position and you put the clip in place and chamber a round. Is the gun still in the safety position?

(2) Is it better to chamber a round with the de-cocker in the down position or is it better to chamber a round with the de-cocker in the up position and then go to the down (de-cock position) after chambering a round?

(3) I am sure it will but I want to confirm it here on the forum. Will a 4506 8 round clip fit a 4506-1?

I trust someone can answer my questions and you don't think they are dumb but this is my first Smith & Wesson Auto pistol.

By the way I can already tell I am really going to like this gun.

I usually chamber the first round with the safety on after cleaning, on the range I just reload. If the safety is in the down position it is safe. It can be done either way. All the 8 round magazines will interchange, even the 645.

1. If the safety lever is still down it is in "safety position."

2. Depends. Neither method is dangerous. The owner's manual would recommend having the safety on (down). Many users leave it up and decock. Just keep your finger off the trigger.

3. Yes.

Not to be nit picky, but it is not a "clip." It is a magazine. Clips hold ammo (like the clips for the M1 Garand, but they do not have a spring forcing the cartridges to the top of the magazine tube. If it has a spring, it is technically a "magazine" and not a "clip."

Thank you for the correction. I knew it was a magazine; I don't know why I put clip.

What a dummy I am.

Thanks for answering my questions.
