I just witnessed the most idiotic, poorly-timed Class of 2020 Parade imaginable.

So I just had myself a lovely little scare.

I'm just settling in for the evening, trying to relax, when suddenly I hear a ton of sirens. Police Cruisers, Firetrucks and Ambulances come speeding down the road one after the other. People are shouting outside.
My mind jumps to recent news reports of riots and I fear the worst. "Is there a riot going on nearby?! How close is it?!"

Ambulances, Firetrucks, and Police Cruisers continue speeding down the road, their sirens blaring amongst sounds of people shouting, screaming even! Then suddenly comes...Pizza Hut Delivery Vehicles?! Yes, suddenly the precession of various vehicles which usually aren't seen/heard together unless some sort of disaster has occurred is being followed by a number of Pizza Hut Delivery SUVs with teenagers hanging out the open windows.
Supposedly I'm struck with the realization that what I'm witnessing isn't a response to a riot going on somewhere nearby, but some sort of impromptu surprise parade for the Class of 2020! Feelings of shock and tension are suddenly replaced with feelings of frustration and anger so quickly that I honestly felt light-headed from it.

With all of the riots going on, all of the social unrest, all of the news reports of protests turning violent, they thought that it was a good time to hold some sort of Class of 2020 Parade, starting with a precession of various vehicles which evoke thoughts of disaster when seen/heard together, especially in large numbers?
Honestly, the only way that could have possibly been any worse-looking is if they threw in a couple of S.W.A.T. Vans and Camouflage-painted Humvees while they were at it. What were they thinking?!

I saw one of those last week at my second home near Del Rio. I was at my range shooting (this was about 6 PM last Friday), and I heard all the sirens and horns coming from the nearby town (Brackettville). I had no idea what it was, but later found out it was a graduation parade. All the grads and their families were lined up in their cars and driving by the county courthouse to pick up their diplomas since they couldn't have a normal graduation.
 
My youngest grandson wasn't thrilled with all the pomp and circumstance involved in his recent graduation either.

My daughter graduated from high School last week. The ceremony was rescheduled at least 4 times and almost cancelled by rain when it did happen. Social distancing was enforced. The pictures will look traditional at least. All the traditional senior year fun was cancelled for these kids, A small part of our long lives. but a big part of their young lives. Cut off early from life long friends many that you will seldom see again as they scatter across the country to different colleges, no prom, no parties, no senior skip day, no senior play. No goofing off together at school. Disappointment does not cover it. Any fun they can have together is good thing.

Sorry that they upset you. The kids can't have a normal graduation ceremony so it was done this way. I would have enjoyed seeing it. When their grand children graduate they will be able to tell them "You're lucky. You should have seen the way we had to do back in'20.":)

For those who don't think graduation is important:
I spent my last two years in military school working my azz off to get into the Academy. After all that, no one from my family showed up at graduation. I"m now 71 and you would think I was over it. Nope.
That disappointment turned out to be one of the worst of my life. Graduation is the Culmination. Without it, it's just not finished.

I feel for the kids.

As you might recall, these seniors were born during the chaos of 9/11. I was home on paternity leave as I watched the second plane hit the tower, and was called to work shortly thereafter. I'm not sure what we expected . . .
