This was coined over 50 years ago so I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it. But it makes perfect sense, it is an actual dictionary defined word.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Famous for being famous, or famous for nothing, is a pejorative popular culture term that refers to someone who attains celebrity status for no particular identifiable reason (as opposed to fame based on achievements, skill, and/or talent) and just appears to generate their own fame, or someone who achieves fame through association with an actual celebrity (such as being the spouse, child, etc. of one).[1] The application of the term suggests that the individual has no particular talents or abilities. People who have been described as "famous for being famous" include Angelyne,[2] Jill Kelley,[3] Paris Hilton,[4] Nicole Richie,[5] Katie Price,[6] and the Kardashian sisters Kim, Khloé and Kourtney.[7]

It goes back much further than 50 years. There have always been those which are celebrities, but without any obvious reason for it. I guess it is just their enviable lifestyle rather than any talent or accomplishment. I can think of one possible future presidential candidate who fits that description.

Back in the 1940s and 1950s, Zsa Zsa (meow meow) Gabor was a good example. So was her long-time "boyfriend," Porfirio Rubirosa, the famous gigolo and playboy.

The article (granted, it is from Wikipedia) is that it was coined in 1961 but also had had other names. The Zsa Zsa Effect was cited as well.

Well... ONE of the K sisters is famous for a sort of "achievement." :D

Wonder where Caitlyn Jenner falls in that category?
