Model 640-1, .357 Magnum.

This is how it came to me. This is the first handgun I ever purchased.
Not the first one I've owned, just the first one I purchased.

I bought it from my brother back on May 11, 2008 with my stimulus money. :D
I'm pretty sure that's what they wanted us to spend it on. ;)

Kind of funny because the case that it came in belonged to my 642-1
that my brother gave to me in Aug 2014, three months after retiring from LE. It was his BUG.

It was my EDC from 5/2008 up until 8/2014.

I eventually added some nice S&W Combat Grips.

I don't carry it very often but when I do this is how its dressed.

Judging from the numbers I'd have to think it was produced in
the first production run back in Jan 1995 and shipped a few
months later.

I know you've heard me say this before, but this is one of my
favorites and its a keeper.

I have one too, don't have it with me today, so can't check the S/N, but I think I bought mine in 1998.

I love my 640-1, it throws some wicked fire rings and flames when shooting 357's. When I had the date checked on mine, I believe mine was from 1994.

Everyone does, it's always fun to let other people shoot it and see their expression. [emoji16]

Here's one of my daughters shooting my M640-1 with 125 gr .357 Magnums. :D

She's actually a great shot. :)

"Kenny's Angels" My four daughters. It was a fun night at the range.

That was also the night that my brother gave me his 642-1. It was his BUG up until he retired 3 months prior.

He also gave me my M28-2 that night.
I used to borrow it to hunt rabbits.
He told me I was the only one who had ever shot it so he
thought it was fitting that he it was me that should have it.

My 640-1 is the only J frame I have fired A 357 Magnum round through. Put a big Pachmayr grip on it and loaded one round. Lit it off to get the t-shirt, and that was enough.

But as a 38-shooter, none of my other J frames can match it. I mostly carry a 32 Magnum today, but when a 38 was my daily carry the 640 was no more burdensome in a Lobo pancake holster than one of the airweights, and would have been a lot more controllable if I had ever had to use it for real.

I carry mine loaded with .38 Special +P Hydra Shok.

No pun intended but I think its a blast shooting .357 Magnum load with it.

rubiranch, sir that is a great looking holster. Would you share the name of the maker, please?

It was a great night but every time we get together its a good to time for sure.

Brain freeze, I can't remember.
I'll check when I get back home.

I have a 640-1 also. It's been my EDC pretty much ever since I rescued it from a pawn shop. I try other guns that I have to carry, but I always seem to come back to the 640-1. Mine is loaded with Speer 135 grain Short Barrel .357's. I'm trying to retire it again now with a model 60 no dash. Wish me luck! I love this little gun!

I bought this 60-14 Lady Smith .357 from a friend NIB and sold it about 4 years later NIB.

I never did fire it.

My late brother's 640-1. This was his EDC. IDK if the Ace Grips were OEM, or if he added them. I don't have the case to look at the label. According to the brochure, the color is Evergreen Camo.

This gun in very accurate. I remember seeing him shoot this one handed at the PA Game Commission range and hit the angled metal frame 4 out of 5 times at 25 yards. The were at maximum 8" wide.

This was my EDC after he passed, but I find it too heavy for pocket carry.

So it's retired, but will NEVER be sold or traded.

Here's my 640-1. This was my cousin's EDC for years, and I acquired it after his death in 2014. BSY serial number dates it to 1995. Definitely a handful with full power .357
