Finally acquired a 2" Model 15-3 yesterday. Goes really nice along with the Model 36 and 19.

Note the color of the trigger and hammer on the 1976 Nickel 36. It has a matte gray set instead of the usual case hardened color. Although unusual I've seen a few other Nickel guns with the same configuration from time to time as I have seen some S&W Stainless pistols with case hardened trigger and hammer sets.

Very nice collection you have there. Nothing wrong with shiny things at all.
I like them to, but, my current budget, won't allow to many for me ( ha-ha)
Keep on collecting

I suspect that any stainless gun with CH hammer/trigger, or nickel gun with stainless parts, was modified by a previous owner.

Smith made the little M60 in 1990 with the case hardened hammer and trigger. . .made them until around 1993. First, last, and only time they did this with the M60. They are kind of rare. . .if not rare then at least unusual.

I suspect that any stainless gun with CH hammer/trigger, or nickel gun with stainless parts, was modified by a previous owner.

At one time that was a popular owner upgrade. A late friend was a department armorer, and he installed CH hammers and triggers into several 65 and 66 guns "because of wear issues" with the stainless parts. The stainless hammers and triggers were considered "soft" at the time. My guess is someone had one go bad and everyone double jumped... jumped to conclusions and jumped on the bandwagon.

Nice, you take the short barrels in nickel finish and leave the 4"+ longer barrels four me.
Deal or no deal.

Blue is cool, stainless is better, but that s&w nickel is freaking awesome.

For you guys and gals who don't have any nickel someday your going to wish you did have a few it's still not too late yet. Don't miss the bus on this one.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I don't think a flash-chromed trigger and hammer came from the factory on a Model 36, so I think they were swapped.
I have several stainless guns with color-case hardened parts... I always thought that they simply discontinued the flash-chromed items and made everything CCH.
Nice 15!

Call me crazy, but I think I prefer the look of the 2" M15's barrel to the look of the 2 1/2" M19's barrel. Anyone else feel this way?
