… and I don't feed trolls. Why someone would come and pick a fight is beyond me. It's like going into a church and advocating abortion.

I've attended shows for 30+ years. They're a model of free enterprise and they support a number of small businesses, plus they're great fun. No grenades, no gangs, no rocket launchers… I hate shopping, but I love gun shows (go figure). It's kind of a cross between a treasure hunt and a family reunion. I hunt, target shoot and collect and this has been a lifetime passion for me. I belong to a number of associations and clubs where firearms are the primary focus. I teach firearms safety and volunteer my time with junior programs and WOT (Women on Target) events. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the finest people I know because of these common interests. The ranks include several Ret. Colonels, members of law enforcement (some Chiefs), successful businessmen, doctors, lawyers (not so sure about some of them), a few judges and lots of others who are just good folks. These are smart, hard working people with strong morals and values. Some of these friendships go back over 30 years.

We are not what's wrong with America. We've been demonized by the media and the left, but don't believe it for a minute. In my view, we represent the strengths of America. Current firearm regulations are mind boggling and we're worse off because of them. Placing further restriction on legal firearms owners will not reduce crime or violence in this country. These restrictive schemes usually the opposite effect by disarming law abiding citizens and creating more opportunity for predators. It also cost a lot of money to implement and burdens those who have done no wrong.

Be proud of our American heritage and the things our Country has done to advance freedom around the world. Support the NRA and let your elected representatives know how you feel. Vote (early and often)!

I will say this about OUR Federal Government - They're really good at getting bigger.

I like them too. Its why I go to almost every one of them within easy driving distance.

And just to start trouble....I once bought 4 Beenie Babies. I have a mountain lion, a rat, and a snake. I bought a mallard duck, but it went home with my granddaughter. She still has it and likes it. The mountain lion pounces on the rat every time I can stage them.

I like to see other peoples guns. Sometimes I even buy them. On very rare occasions, I manage to sell one of mine. Sometimes I even get lucky and break even.

"One of the prize possessions of manhood since our forefathers first settled America always has been the gun. This attitude toward firearms has become an historic tradition in the United States. It represents a priceless freedom won by our forefathers which few other nations enjoy. So strong was their conviction about the right of reputable citizens to own and use firearms for lawful purposes that they amended our original Constitution to provide that 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' That right is a foundation stone of American liberty. We owe it to our ancestors to preserve unimpaired that right which they have delivered to our care. We owe it to future generations that their inheritance not be destroyed. Let's act now to make certain that Americans always will have the freedoms, the values, and the pleasures signified by a man and his gun." American Rifleman editorial, March 1959

Between this quote and Chad, 'nuff said.

bringing back jerkey is the only way to appease the wife. i fear the day I forget to bring some back along with a few thousand rounds of ammo.

I suddenly have a craving for beef jerky and a beanie baby...I have no idea why.....

Good post S&WChad, well said.

I love gun shows also. My 12 yr old loves them as much as I do, but he does'nt like beanie babies.

I have been doing (having tables) at gun shows for about 25 years. I always enjoy them, true I do meet some folks I would rather not but by and large good people. For awhile when I was an FFL the shows made a good part of my living as my other business struggled along getting established. I now do them strictly for fun and they are. Sometimes I make a few bucks, sometimes it costs me. I'll continue to do them as long as I am able and fight to keep them from being outlawed.

I once bought 4 Beenie Babies.

Best one I've seen was on the table next to the Beanie Baby seller. The guy had one of the old hand-crank meat grinders for sale, posted as a "Beanie Baby Processor".

There also was the table full of Bennie's listed as "Reactive Targets".

I have a hunting buddy that really likes guns, but had never been to a gunshow.

I finally talked him into going, and thought he would pass out from overexposure before we were done for the day.

He viewed a gunshow through the eyes of an enthusiast that had never seen one. He absolutely loved it, and said he could never go back again, it was just too intense!

No complaining about jerkey, or beenie babies (though they were there). And no complaining about the prices. He saw it for what it is, a celebration of free market forces combined with a very popular product.

If it weren't for gun shows, I wouldn't know where to gather with like minded individuals to trade and learn. There is ONE gun store within an hour of my home, and I own more guns than the store!

Having heard all the "I hate gunshows" posts over the years, have to admit I love them. Where else can you?

Dig a .22 magazine out of a $1 box that is a Remigton 37 magazine worth $150.?

Pick up a named rifle builder's birdeye maple stocked custom enfield 1917 sporter rifle in .30 belted Newton (.30/338 win mag) for $150.?

Get another 28-2 (98%) for $300., best yet get to show it off at the show?

Pick up a 4 inch S&W 63 for $175.?

How about a 98% Walther HP for $300.?

or a 98% Browning lightweight A-5 for $300.

or Buy 2 Redfield international olympics rear peeps for $75., then a hour later buy a set with front and rears for $50.?

Or how about buying a case of 30-06 for $125. and swapping it for a S&W 1917 at the next show?

In the land of the blind a one eyed man is king :-)
