… but in the meantime, I’m picking up this dash-2 today

(If I can find a clever excuse to sneak out of the house past my wife. Its raining today, so the “car wash” excuse is untenable.)

The PACHMYR grips are my absolute favorite for actually FIRING any revolver.

But for nostalgia sake, I want to know whether the dash-2 guns ever shipped with basic MAGNA. grips?

I’m surprised Smith and Wesson has basically zero offerings for replacement grips on their website. Seems like it could be easy money, and lots of buyers. Prices on eBay are steep! I actually wanted a set with wear to match the scruffiness of the new-to-me dash-2. Don’t know if it will be “correct” in that configuration. But I’ll keep care of it for a few years I have left.

Might even shoot it a bit.

I picked it up from my FFL.

Made up an excuse about picking up blood pressure medication. Which isn’t completely untrue considering the beneficial effects of this sort of thing.

I installed the eBay magna’s. Not a clean fit unless I WECSOG ‘em a bit.

My plinkin’ load is 9.1 grains Winchester WSF (Winchester Super Field) and a jacketed 240. Probably about 950-ish velocity.

I tried Magna's on my 29-2 once years ago. I was not pleased and removed them immediately and put the Hogues back on. I now have a period set of Target Cokes on it.

The eBay ad listed a suffix of “P-34” on the description.

Maybe this nomenclature explains why the grips I bought are slightly oversized.

Is anyone familiar with “P-34” that might explain the size problem?

I don’t mind whittling-to-fit the set I got. But maybe I shouldn’t “ruin” a rare item if “P-34” makes it especially special.

I picked up a 1968 29-2 about five years ago and it’s one of the last guns I would ever sell. Mine has the 6” barrel and original target grips. Like S&W fan, my 29-2 has the best trigger of any of my revolvers, but all of my S&Ws have nice triggers.

A S&W with a lock is a show stopper for me. I won’t buy one and if I was given one, I’d sell it. I don’t own any with MIM parts either, although that wouldn’t stop me from buying one. Of course, I only have 5 S&W revolvers, but they’re all good ones.
