Did I blow it?

I realy want one bad. I'm going to shoot it, not let it sit in the safe.

The shop had a date on it of 1957, if someone has the s/n range for that year I could verify that.

It had very tight lock up and beautiful bore.

Why did I pass? It had been reblued. Factory letter present to support. It looked like it had been unfired since reblue, but darn it, something about that finish. It's just not like the original

They wanted $900. Being here in California, we seem to have to pay a little more, but it still seemed a bit steep

Again, did I blow it?

No, you did not blow an opportunity. $900 is way too much for a refinished 1957 K-22. For that money you should have the unfired original and its box.

Keep looking. You can find K-22s of the first postwar decade in good condition and unrefinished for less than what the seller was asking for that one.

Roughly speaking, a gun numbered K250000 to K300000 would be from the 1956-57 time frame.

Thanks guys! You are reinforcing what I allready knew, but I needed it

The search is half the fun, but when you get the bug for a particular model . . . especially when they are all over Gun Broker etc and I can't buy them

You were right not to buy it. Look on GunBroker. If you were willing to pay $900, you will find many, many K22's in much better condition and for less. Let us know when you find one!

rc - welcome to the Forum!
No, you didn't blow it - that's a rediculous price for a reblued K22.
Be patient - you'll find one.

+1 on everything VM said. For that matter, a forum member has a 1947 (I believe) K-22 one liner on GB right now that has been refinished for $450, which IMO is much more in line for a refinished K-22 (plus it's a one liner!).

Sure C&R elligible but still some hoops to jump through. Still, many sellers won't sell to Ca

Good luck and keep checking the classifieds here. I picked up a 1948 K22 (about 90+%) for $475 shipped a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad you walked away from that deal.

Thanks, all.

I'll have to keep drooling at the pics here for a bit.

In the quest for domestic tranquillity, an upgrade to the home audio happened today.

L-22's gotta wait

You did right! That is a rip off. But when you say: "...and can't buy them" I hope you realize you can buy anything on Gunbroker made before 1961 which makes it a Curio and Relic, shippable to CA. I look at C&R K22 shooters at least weekly on Gunsamerica and Gunbroker for under $900 that we can buy and have shipped to our FFL in CA.

Sent you a PM.

Sellers would, alot of FFL's won't, so it would be hard to complete the sale.

There's a small minority of FFLs that won't, not a lot. And I take the time to explain to them that when they don't ship to CA, they are playing right into the hands of the enemy who likes to "divide and conquer" even if I'm not buying a gun from them. I will also find an FFL holder that will ship to CA for a private seller.

Some FFLs just think the extra paperwork to get the CA DOJ "permission to ship" is onerous. I send them the procedure and show them how easy it is and that it can all be done by e-mail. Shipping a gun for me to CA was the 1st for a few of these FFLs once they were enlightened.

We all need to be educators, not complainers, if we are to defend our gun rights.

That's a $300 pistol. Tell the dealer to stick it where the sun don't shine. It's also over 50 years old so an identical piece would be legal to import into CA. It's the guns that can't be legally imported that are jack in CA due to the awful laws. Again, make the sunshine suggestion to the dealer. You know he paid $200 for that gun.
