I want anther .223 and maybe another 9mm

And I'm torn between whether to get an AR or a Ruger Scout rifle. I really like the Smith & Wesson MP15 sku# 811000 but that Scout rifle in stainless is pretty sweet as well and I wouldn't be shooting up ammo as fast :D
I've already got an older Mini 14 with an original Ruger folding stock.
I like the Scout over other .223 bolt actions because it has the open sights..
While we're at it, I have the serious envie for another full sized 9mm and am torn between a Mk III Hi Power and a stainless CZ75. I'll listen to opinions on that as well.

I would go with the AR. One rifle, a million different possibilities. You didn’t have a 223 but now you have one. Maybe down the road you want a 300 BLK or a 6.5 Grendel or ...... all you need is an upper and ammo. No having to buy a "firearm". You want longer range? Buy a different upper! Build your own upper if you want. All parts are available. You can even put a single shot 50 BMG upper on an AR receiver. Or you can keep it plain vanilla. It's like Legos.

The scout rifle is a cool idea but I'd buy that in a 308. More versatile as a bolt gun (not that 223 can't get things done. You should see what a 77gr SMK bullet will do to a hog at 250 yards) but 308 is IMO just a better general purpose caliber in a bolt gun.

CZ vs HP? I don't have a huge preference either way. If I had to choose it would be the CZ simply because it lacks the mag safety

My dad and brother both like older High Powers, dad has a late 50's and an early 70's. My brother has a mid 60's and a mid to late 70's (first one anyone in the family picked up). In the late 80's my brother picked up a brand new one, fit and finish were poorer the the older ones, but what wasn't; to the range it went- compared to the older ones it was junk! Compared to a Beretta 92 it was pretty good! so I recommend that you hold out for an older one, a little wear should soften the price!

I never had much luck with the 77 or the Mini-14. I had three 77's and five Mini-14's. I have real good results from well made AR-15 platforms, and currently have four Savage bolt actions. An late 50's model 340 in 22 Hornet and a Model 10 target rifle in 223, a model 10BAS in 308 and a model 110BA in 338 Lapua. I get much better that 1/2 MOA accuracy with the 3 modern rifles at 500 to 1000 yards and get 1/4 MOA with the 340 out to 200 yards (pretty good for any Hornet with factory ammo!) I know Savage is making a Scout rifle but none of my friends have bought one to play with. One friend has a Mossburg Scout in 223 and it shoots very good (sub 1/2 MOA of hand at targets and varmints) and uses AR mags! (Rugers use proprietary mags!)

I vote the Hi-Power first.

As far as rifles go, I'm with Arik. Get the AR in .223, then go right out and get a Scout in .308, just like the good Colonel intended!
 
If I'm reading Ruger's site correctly ...... extra mags for the .223 Scout 10 rds (I would like a 5rd option) and are $75 :O

Not stainless..... but I love my CZ 527FS (mannlicher) in 223/5.56 (per CZ).....mini-mauser action......emergency rear sight... 5rd detachable magazine ($35)..... about $750......Mine wears a 1-5x20 Leupold scope.

They also make a carbine model.

I have 2 MarkIII HPs. better sights and safety than the older guns....... Millet use to make a front sight with white of red strip...... Browning used them on the Practical Model.... as my eyes past 60 they are a great upgrade.

Check to make sure that all parts on the M&P15 are standard parts. I seem to remember reading somewhere that there are a couple proprietary parts in there that prevent changing things too much. It might have been the M&P22 that I was reading about though. The AR platform is a wonderful way to mix and match parts and build exactly what you want.
 
I've had 2 CZs and one HP. All 3 are gone now. The CZ75 compact wasn't accurate for me. This was a long time ago and thinking back it was probably me and not the gun. More training with DA was needed....I'm guessing. I sold it. Later I bought a CZ85 (ambi version of the 75) nickel finish. Accurate gun but something about CZ DA triggers just doesn't jive with me. Just like Beretta 92. As opposed to Sig or S&W 3rd gen which I like. Guess I'm weird. Later I bought a 80s HP. Very clean gun but had problems feeding so I got rid of it. There was a few other things I didn't like about it and I'm not the type to spend money tweaking things. It either works for me or it doesn't. Sold that too. If I were to buy one of the two again it would be the CZ.

Not sure how authentic you want to go but Aim Surplus has Israeli issued HP and CZ. Could be a good cheap way to get into one

I agree.

And I love my Hi-Power but I have a strong preference for double action handguns so I'd vote CZ.
 
I'd go with a Russian izhmash Saiga in 223 the AK/AKM RIFLES are tops.
And very accurate with no scope.

A double action pistol the CZ75db / CZ85db in 9mm is my choice.

I just got the Stainless CZ75B, only 300 rounds through it.

Up until I got the CZ, I never "liked" bottom feeders, although I have a few for CC practicality and my husband has a Walther for the range.

There is "something different" about the 75B that puts it into the same favored group as my revolvers, besides a good grip, trigger, balance, and looks. Everything meshes together so positively, that, like my revolvers, I have complete confidence in it's operation, and have replaced my night table wheel gun with the CZ.

The DA/SA trigger is good, with a very positive, short reset. The low bore-axis slide is integrated into the frame, and feels like it. Lock-back on empty is flawless. Stripping rounds from the mag into the chamber, is smooth and effortless.
The faint, green-dot sights, are the only negative for me. A bit of white nail polish helped.

There is a design change is not reflected by the picture on the CZ website. The beavertail is now up-swept on my new polished stainless CZ75B.
 
As a fellow reader of yers, and shooter....get one of them Colts! You cant go wrong, I think 6920 is "whats happin" now days! regards Ernie
 
Oh and Caj, Its Christmas, skip the 9 and git a new Ruger SR1911 full size in 45 acp another winner,a LOT of pistol for the cash, regards Ernie
 
For a 9mm, I would probably opt for a Colt LWT Commander, since it's a single-stack pistol, and double stacks and I don't play well together.

AR-15's and clones have reached near saturation, and there are some great deals out there. I would look at DPMS Panther Arms.
