I've been thinking about what the optimal configuration for an AR PCC in 10mm might be in a world with no NFA.

Obviously, being a pistol cartridge it doesn't need the long, 20"+ barrels that many rifle cartridges do for maximizing ballistics. On the other hand, a 4.5" barrel AR 10mm may be more "maneuverable" but you may as well forgo the [C]arbine in "PCC" and stick to a pistol.

With these purposes in mind, I pulled the data for 10mm from BBTI, synthesized and summarized it below.

I determined the maximum velocities and muzzle energies for each ammunition and the percentage by barrel length of each.

I threw out any barrel length longer than the length with greatest velocity/muzzle energy, since there's no reason to have extra barrel if it doesn't provide increased performance

I also threw out any length below 7" for two reasons: (1) below 7" the velocities dipped below 90% of max and muzzle energies dipped to 75% of max for many of the ammunitions; and (2) I take it as axiomatic that if you need more maneuverability than a 7" AR provides, you need a pistol

With each ammunition, I also highlighted in RED any velocities/muzzle energies less than that of a shorter barrel shooting the same ammunition.
