Just purchased a Springfield Armory 1911 RO I found on Gunbroker.com. On the plastic case is a sticker with the words, Illegal in California, Whats the story?

Who knows????? They have to many non-shooting fire-arm experts in the Socialist State of California..Somebody on this site will know I guess...I take it you are talking about a Springfield Range Office..Basically a no frills target pistol......In my opinion a very well made 1911. would make a nice hard-ball pistol...(from what I have seen so far) We have only had two of them, both sold fast....Nice purchase....

Maybe because it doesn't have a fancy enough finish for the Hollywood crowd...more likely, it's not on the DOJ approved list because Springfield didn't feel like supplying two guns for testing.

California has a list of approved/acceptable guns. Each gun has to be "tested" to be put on that list. That includes down to the finish. A listed gun may be O.K. in one finish as in blue. A gun by the same mfg. same type, same gun exactly might be in a phosphate finish as in O.D. that hasn't been tested. That gun can't enter California legally. My understanding is a gun a on the list can't be refinished to a non tested finish. So your gun is not on the California list apparently.

If its worth doing or having, it is illegal in California:D
Seriously though all handguns must pass a drop test in CA, those models failing testing, or those that havnt been tested, are not legal there.

Rather than trying to flat out ban guns out here, a bunch of elected gun haters just pass laws saying something like "All handguns sold in Ca. must have a device that when applicated, a twenty foot neon sign saying "loaded" and an entire brass band has to come out of the muzzle before firing". Of course this is too expensive to make so they won't ship guns here. That's how these "gun experts" who are trying to get concealed carry for themselves right now (because of the tuscon shootings) can ban guns without actually banning guns.

This about sums up California.

Well you can see it's unloaded. Another California requirement?

Funny you should ask. Because getting a concealed carry permit is nigh on impossible for the common people in CA some of them have started exercising the legal right to open carry. Of course, they cannot have the gun loaded while practicing OC. They can have the ammo on thier person though. It just takes a little longer to get your firearm ready to use in case it is needed.

MOVE,

The state is not worth the effort anymore, the same people keep electing the same stuff over and over.
The definitiion of insanity(CA) is to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different answer.:(

Thanks for everyones input,I have lived in WV most of my 64 yrs. and I can only think of two fellows who did not own some type of firearm.

"The LisT" only applies to new sales. If you have a gun and want to sell it to another individual it does not have to be on the list. Wish we could get that misinformation out of hear.

As for CCW there are a lot of counties that are pro gun, just not LA, San Francisco and Sacramento. Although I have just read that the Sergeant at arms at the state capital is to be armed at all times.

I live in Fresno county, Sheriff Mims is pro CCW and I plan to take advantage of that.

Really depends on what part of the state you're in Bob. It's probably easier here than in DC, IL, MA or NY from what I hear. Up here in northern CA most county's give permits. Could be better for sure, but we aren't the only state where gun owners are battling against a liberal majority in our fight to keep our freedoms. Wish us luck please.

Actually likely because Springfield didn't feel like paying the Cali DOJ to test each of the many different handguns they produce. I have heard that the XD Series in Bi-Tone (SS slide w/ black frame) is not on the "approved" list either.

In reality it would likely be safer to carry a piece of wood--You won't need to load it before using it

My XDm .45 has a big "not legal in California" sticker on it. Of course, it also has a 13 round magazine which is well know to be evil. Only 10 round magazines could possibly ever be considered appropriate.

I also heard that a magazine safety disconnect is required in CA?
