Just purchased a Springfield Armory 1911 RO I found on Gunbroker.com. On the plastic case is a sticker with the words, Illegal in California, Whats the story?
Rather than trying to flat out ban guns out here, a bunch of elected gun haters just pass laws saying something like "All handguns sold in Ca. must have a device that when applicated, a twenty foot neon sign saying "loaded" and an entire brass band has to come out of the muzzle before firing". Of course this is too expensive to make so they won't ship guns here. That's how these "gun experts" who are trying to get concealed carry for themselves right now (because of the tuscon shootings) can ban guns without actually banning guns.California has a list of approved/acceptable guns. Each gun has to be "tested" to be put on that list. That includes down to the finish. A listed gun may be O.K. in one finish as in blue. A gun by the same mfg. same type, same gun exactly might be in a phosphate finish as in O.D. that hasn't been tested. That gun can't enter California legally. My understanding is a gun a on the list can't be refinished to a non tested finish. So your gun is not on the California list apparently.
Not exactly-This about sums up California.

Well you can see it's unloaded. Another California requirement?

Funny you should ask. Because getting a concealed carry permit is nigh on impossible for the common people in CA

Maybe because it doesn't have a fancy enough finish for the Hollywood crowd...more likely, it's not on the DOJ approved list because Springfield didn't feel like supplying two guns for testing.
Funny you should ask. Because getting a concealed carry permit is nigh on impossible for the common people in CA some of them have started exercising the legal right to open carry. Of course, they cannot have the gun loaded while practicing OC. They can have the ammo on thier person though. It just takes a little longer to get your firearm ready to use in case it is needed.

Actually likely because Springfield didn't feel like paying the Cali DOJ to test each of the many different handguns they produce. I have heard that the XD Series in Bi-Tone (SS slide w/ black frame) is not on the "approved" list either.
