Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who could fit a pair of grips for me? The grips are Cokes and they need some fine tuning. I do not want someone without a lot of experience to touch $600-$700 grips, and I do not want to send my gun to anyone. I know there are some talented guys around the country but I would prefer to keep it in the Chicago area.

Thanks for reading...any help is appreciated.

In the Chicago area, I have heard a lot of good reviews about the smith at Article II in Lombard. His name is Promisco, I believe first name is Glen. I do not know him personally but do know he has been on the area quite a while. Never had anything done there but heard all good things when people had work done but those grips and wheel guns certainly need (and deserve) an old school smith. Not that many around now that could be considered old school. I looked up the number for ya,give him a call and see if that doable. (630) 627-0310

Thank you...I've known Glenn since about 1989, when I first moved to Illinois. I forgot all about him. I will look into the other fellow in the future as well, thank you. I did find someone, and the updated pictures that he has sent me of their progress is excellent.

Keep in mind not all gunsmiths can or will fit stocks. It is different than fitting internal parts.

This! I found that out the hard way after having custom grips fine tuned to my Vaquero. They didn't fit right, and the gold screw came loose every cylinder or so fired, along with the grips. I paid something like $50 for the fitting, and was out the pair of ruined grips, too.
