This bill has passed the Illinois House and is headed for the Senate. Among other effects, if passed it will effectively ban almost all private transfers. Individuals transferring to individuals will be required to take the transaction to an FFL holder to be run through background checks and recorded in the books; for this service, the FFL's fee is limited to $10. If FFLs decline the service, it is likely that the "firearm criminal class" will be expanded as private transfers are driven underground. Also, FOID fees would be doubled while the FOID term is reduced from 10 years to 5. Applications will also be subject to unspecified (and therefore unlimited) "processing fees.
Note that for the past 6 years or so, about 5 million bucks per year have been "swept" from the fund created by the FOID and CCL fees and transferred to the state's general fund. Nothing in the present bill would prevent that.
PLEASE READ THE BILL AND WRITE YOUR STATE SENATOR

We have such an arrangement in CA. It is a serious PITA. Many stores only perform this service on certain days and times (highly restricted) because they make essential zero money on it and only do it as a service to potential customers.

Also glad I left IL. Here in NM they passes a similar bill, most of the county sherrifs issues a statement that they were not going to enforce it.

Illinois is doomed and not just gun rights, saw Illinois is the least tax friendly state for middle income people. Sancturary state and the whole thing run by Chicago democrats. Took the wife, dogs. motorcycle and the guns to Indiana in March of 2020. Wonderful here, just hope the Illinois democrats don't move here to escape high taxes and then keep voting for democrats. Jim.

I left in 2013 and never looked back.Unfortunately my son has 12 more years there until he can pension out.Arizona looks better every day.

Congrats to you, and I wish your son luck!!!
Damn shame for anyone who has to remain in Illinois. I stayed only for the career, and retired early in the year. I'm in the process of moving one state over. Already have the property. Only 2 reasons i still have the Illinois DL and maintain residency (until i sell off the home)...they don't tax retirees, and if i have to go back to gather things i have a state issued concealed carry permit.
It's amazing that people from ANY other state would want to even be in Illinois for the simple fact that they cannot legally protect themselves with a firearm.

Illinois is a money grabbing commie state for sure, and I have put off buying a new car for over 4 years because i refuse to give Illinois more tax money.
As i stated in a previous post, they do not tax retirees..mainly because of the huge number of retired state workers (bureaucrats) and school 'educators' being blind supporters of the people who bring about the tax increases.
And believe it or not, Illinois does not tax the purchase of gold bullion coins.

Jughed440 good luck on your move congratulations on retirement and thanks for the kind words.Even with my pension not being taxed in Illinois I'm still better off in Arizona because even though they tax my pension my property taxes are 1/4 of what I paid in Illinois, not to mention Arizona is a gun rights supporting state and usually ranks 1 or 2 in the country for support of the 2nd amendment plus its 75 degrees here today in the first week of December.

Thanks!...and good move!
I'm southern Missouri bound... MUCH cheaper property taxes, Constitutional carry is the law, and they honor concealed carry permits issued by other states.
I'm done with ILL-inois once the house is sold.

edit to add..
Over half of my ex-coworkers are planning to leave for gun-friendly states and/or to escape Illinois' high taxes. One of them showed me a $229K house in Alabama that was listed on a popular real estate website. The yearly taxes on that house...are you sitting down??...$90.00. No joke. I wish i had taken a pic of that screen or had saved the link.
