I’m a little confused about the Springfield Research Service.

I guess they used to sell a CD of their database, as well as books and updates to those books via a subscription.

I understand a “hit” in their database is a long shot. Is there a way to submit serial numbers to them to be checked, or do I have to buy the books?

If anyone has access, I’d just like to see if these guns are listed:

Trapdoor carbine, SN 140775

Springfield Armory 1903, circa 1929, SN 1307511

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am lucky as the only guns that I look up are M1911's. One of my reference books has the SRS for those pistols in the appendix of that book.

Thanks, I just subscribed.

You are welcome. I am not sure exactly how many Model 1911's and Model 1911A1's that I have had over the years, but it has been quite a few. Only one showed up on the SRS and it was shipped to a Army hospital in Asheville, NC in Dec. 1918. But that was a hoot to me to know where it went.

A small update:

After subscribing ($35) there was no response at all - no welcome email, no response to a couple of emails with a serial number and a follow up.

I was just gonna wait, but a little research found several others in the same boat, including from folks who had paid for letters for guns they knew to be in the database. No response to anything.

So I just got a refund from PayPal. It looks like they are OOB.
