Im thinking about an M&P 45

Im thinking of getting my first gen 4 smith and I have always liked the look and feel of this pistol.I have just been kinda iffy on the trigger.I have never been able to shoot one or even dry fire one.I have a glock 19 and an ruger sr9 so Im not unfamiliar with safety triggers but what I am asking is does it feel simialar to the above guns when you engage the trigger?

I think the SR9C trigger is a little crisper. The Glock maybe a little better. But the rest of the M&P I like much better than the Glock. There is also an Apex trigger kit that you can get (I still haven't done this) that will make the trigger even more responsive... so I 'm told.

The Apex trigger is a tremendous improvement over the factory setup on my M&P45. It gets rid of the "squishiness" and results in a nice, crisp pull.

What you have is a striker gun without manual safety like a Glock. When you put the Apex trigger in you have same thing but lighter trigger. The only problem I have with this arrangement is re-holstering, where something could find it's way in the holster with the gun. I have seen this at IDPA matches where range officers are helping participants keep their shirt out of the holster as they are replacing their gun after a shooting drill. SR9 with thumb safety and is therefore safer re-holstering.

I currently own a 45 M&P and am considering selling it after buying an XD45c. By Keeping hand off grip safety of the XD during re-holstering, I get an extra layer of safety over striker units with no manual safety(M&P or Glock). Of course, I will always strive to maintain 100% safety procedures at all times and don't rely on safeties to get complacent. I just like the idea of exercising 100% safety precautions and having the extra layer of safety provided by a manual safety. Additionally, the XD is softer shooting than the M&P.

Don't get me wrong, the M&P is a very good gun with great ergonomics and has a quite serviceable trigger as it comes from factory. You have to decide if you like the idea of having a back up safety for the trigger just in case something slips in your holster one day.

Personally the Glock tab in the trigger hurts my finger when shooting a lot of rounds in a practical pistol match. I much prefer the S&W M&P trigger.
As an asie I recently purchased a full size S&W M&P45 on a wim. I have been very impressed with it;s reliability and accuracy. It has been totally reliabe with 185 & 200 gr. :SWC, 185 to 230 gr. JHP, 230 gr. FMJ and 185 to 230 gr. plated bullet handloads - all of them provided nice tight 1.25 to 2 inch ten shot groups at 50 ft.

It's lighter, crisper and has much less take up. The over travel feels just about the same to me, on both. I do plan to add the Apex DCAEK to the S&W. But don't get me wrong, the stock trigger pull on the M&P is not horrible, but it could use some improvement.

After you install that Apex DCAEK kit, you will be amazed. I just installed one in my 45 last week(except the trigger springs) the grit of the pre travel is gone and the trigger breaks at a crisp 4.5 pounds. The groups I was putting on the paper blew me away. Apex parts should be mandatory for all m&p owners.

i have a glock 17 and just picked up m&p .45

the pull in the mp is longer and heavier "not much" but when it releases it feels like
the glock. i have done no mods.

I have the M&P full size, I like it a lot. I tried a Springfield in the gun store and it didn't fit in my hand like the M&P did.

I just purchased an MP .45 about 2 weeks ago. I was lucky and was able to try many different .45's at the range before I stuck to the MP. Initially I was all over the place with her because she has a heavy trigger pull, but it was just a matter of getting used to. I decided on the MP because it was the most comfortable of all the different models I tried. Here she is taking a rest at the range last night after putting another 200 rounds through her.

Just My Opinion...

...totally from my personal experience. I've owned and shot my M&P45 for several years now. Think I purchased it just after S&W decided to make it in a .45 ACP model. Mine has the ambidextrous thumb safety which I like for the reholstering benefit. S&W back then (maybe at present as well) offered a tuned action by the Custom Shop which I took advantage of and to this day like how it feels. I have never experienced a FTF, FTE, FTC, nor any failure with this pistol whatsoever. Period.

Prior to my M&P45 I was a 1911 die hard Colt .45ACP lover. I carried a 1911A1 in the military and after discharge worked for Colt in their former 140 Huyshope Avenue plant. My entire shooting experience had been orientated around that model. Enter the M&P45 and my loyalty for a pistol shooter changed.

Thinking of maybe purchasing at least one more in the event the upcoming 2012 elections go south.

Again, just my opinion.

MandP 45

I have handled several of these at different stores. The trigger seemed to be good and the feel of the grips were very good.

I have owned several Glocks, one Springfield XD, and one Sigma.
I liked the triggers better.
