I've got a Stainless example from the early 80s my father left me. Iron sights and I've yet to shoot poorly with it regardless of ammo. One of my favorite camp and plinking guns. :)

Have had 2 of them, a 181 & 183 or 84 series. Tried everything & couldn't get either one to hit the broad side of a barn from the inside.

I’ve had three. One could shoot the fly’s off a bull at two hundred yards, one patterned like a shotgun at a hundred yards and the third was somewhere in the middle with about an eight inch group at a hundred yards. So if y’all have one that shoots good; hold onto it; the next one might not. I love the guns but they could have been a little more consistent

I shoot 4” steel pretty regular at 100 yards with a 581/82 series mini 30 and open sights. Handloads. Apparently the newer series have successfully overcome earlier accuracy complaints. I know this isn’t .223, but still...

The Mini 14's are very good light carbines, within certain limitations. Generally very reliable, lightweight, easy to carry and use, but no great shakes in the accuracy department. Standard Mini 14 with open sights would regularly give me 4" groups at 100 yards. Mini 14 with scope gave me 3" groups at 100 yards.

There are probably some good gunsmiths specializing in Mini 14's out there, and improved performance could probably be had by those willing to spend the time and money. I wasn't, and since the Mini 14's filled no particular role for me (not sufficient for large game, not accurate enough for smaller game, no more useful than my M1 Carbines for defensive use) I decided to let them go.

I got the first stainless Mini14 to hit the Albany area way back when. I found it to have reasonable accuracy and superb dependability. It takes military type, sporting type and my handloads nicely!

I have keep it stock except for going a couple sizes bigger in the peep sight aperture . Used my drill index and opened it up a few sizes and it makes a big difference in acquiring a sight picture. As you eye will automatically center out it did not do anything to the accuracy.

I like my Mini 14 and it's plenty accurate enough for any practical use I'd have for it. It's also a compact package with the factory folding stock!

Had an early one, ran flawlessly, only draw back I had was there was no real good way to put optics on it then. I think the newer ones have fixed that problem.
Should point out before they came out with the flat tops ARs had the same problem.

My old agency (Cal Dept. of Corrections) uses them and likes them. They are easy to train with and accurate enough to do the job. I mounted a pistol scope on mine with a mount that replaces the top of the gas block. Works very nicely and looks decent. Made by Ranch Products I think. The scope mount goes onto the plate on the side of the weapon was, IMHO, garbage. If you don't expect them to shoot 1 MOA they are a fine weapon.

Mine is the stainless version.
I think it is Beautiful.
It stands on it's steel butt plate, loaded with a 30 round magazine, with others next to it.
Yes, it is there quietly awaiting it's use,,,,waiting.

I want three more long guns, a CZ bolt action 22, a Springfield M1A (wood and regular barrel) and the Ruger Mini-14 (wood stocks). Glad you liked it, too.
