I'm here on business for a couple weeks, and I saw on the local news this morning that all but 3 of your counties have voted to become "2A Sanctuary Counties" as a result of recent events in your legislature. Very impressive. I like it here when I come to visit, I like it here even more now!

All but 3? Sorry, but that is not the case. Things are getting pretty grim in our legislature, not only on the 2A front, but the fact that the budget just jumped 10.8%.

That's what was reported on your local news, guess it must be wrong. But look on the bright side, it's a lot worse in many other places, my state is a perfect example.

Seeing localities take a stand and support the 2nd amendment is great, but I can tell you this. Federal law trumps state law and state law trumps local ordinance. If the state passes anti-2A laws and decide to really enforce them, the localities will not have a choice in the matter. Your best bet is for people to vote out the anti-2A politicians and vote in people who will uphold and defend the 2A.

Unless you are selling weed, and there are truckloads of cash involved. Then it doesn't matter what the federal law says.... One would have to assume that anything can happen if the right palms get greased.

I believe what you heard was 3 more:
Three more counties have declared themselves Second Amendment Sanctuary Counties. San Juan, Lincoln and Eddy Counties have all adopted the resolutions, Tuesday.

Reported yesterday.

Though Democrat, NM has always been a gun loving state and I am glad to see the Sheriffs and County Commissions standing up to be heard. Maybe those Legislators who vote wrong will lose the next election! A couple of the proposed laws do make some sense. Gun owners should beheld responsible if their "unsecured weapon" is used in a crime. Also federal law already prevents those convicted of DV from possessing guns, so why not a state law. As for the expanded and very restrictive background check lawm a very loud NO NO NO!

Lol. I've never heard of that before. :)

Those three counties that won't adapt the sanctuary 2A county status are, Bernalillo, Santa Fe, and Dona Ana. All population centers. The irony is that the same people who are upset at the 2A sanctuary counties for ignoring state law are the same ones who endorse sanctuary cities and are trying to make NM a sanctuary state and ignore federal immigration laws. Go figure.

i really dont see why if your firearm is in a locked house and someone commits a burglary, with forcible entry, that you should be held responsible for how that firearm is used subsequently. you are a crime victim.

The proposed law states UNSECURED weapon. As is you kid takes your AR-15 out of your unlocked closet and takes it to school and shoots people. Just having your house locked is not enough.

Here's what the proposed law says:

I. A person is not guilty of negligent storage of an unloaded firearm, negligent storage of a loaded firearm, negligent storage of a firearm leading to threatening behavior or negligent storage of a firearm leading to death or injury if:

(1) the minor was supervised by a person older than eighteen years old and use of the firearm was for hunting, sporting or other lawful purposes;

(2) the minor was engaged in the lawful defense of people or property; or

(3) the property where the firearm was stored was entered unlawfully by the minor.

The above is also true for sanctuary cities for illegals and we have seen how stringently they have enforced the FED and or STATES laws about that.

obviously i was referring to someone breaking into your house, not a child who lives there. i didnt feel that i needed to spell that out. apparently the bill addresses just that. the language in the bill doesnt even state that the property the gun is stored in has to be locked, only that the minor entered unlawfully. again to state the obvious this would apply to someone who doesnt live there.

Correct, this parallels NM law on burglary, which does not require entry into a locked building, car, boat, or plane, only that someone entered with intent to commit a theft or any felony inside.

Read this-
Sticky: READ this > RULES on HOW to use the 2A Forum

This topic may feel good, but there is no pending legislation attached to the original topic, so there is no ACTION we need to take.

When bills are being discussed here, we still don't need to drift into discussion of other political topics like immigration and sanctuary cities, legalized marijuana, etc.

We're done here.
Post pending legislation that we need to oppose or support. ;)
