So I received two 17rd Pro Mags for 9mm today. Out of curiosity, I tested a S&W spring and follower in the Pro Mag tube and they fit and function as they should.

The spring and follower can be had from MidwayUSA for $5.50 together and it a nice way to improve on the mag. (plus shipping, and they have a minimum purchase rule or they bang you for a $8 fee... crazy.. so buy some other stuff while you're at it)

A casual look and the two followers look the same... but I'm tired and a closer look is still in order... but if the PM follower works in your gun I'd leave it but still get the spring.

The PM follower has the hole like the S&W one does, but the PM spring does not go through it but the S&W one does.

The S&W spring seems to be better... The Pro Mag spring is not cut to go through the hole in the follower.

I tested the S&W base plate on the Pro Mag tube and it fit...FYI, but you'd have to also use the S&W metal interior plate with it as they have 1 hole and the Pro Mags have 2 holes.

The PM spring rests at the bottom of the tube on the plate but is not attached to the plate like NORMAL mags are. There must be a reason good mags' springs attach to the bottom plate... so you may want to get S&W plates and floor plates... also cheap.

I don't think the Pro Mag tubes are very good as I can see a seam in them but they should hold up until the demand eases.

:)

Do the Promags work, or not?
No point in modifying them until you answer that.
Just because they don't "seem" as good doesn't mean they won't work great. I've got Promags for other guns and they function perfectly.

The reviews from various people regarding Pro Mags are much more mixed than factory mags are. There's no way for me to know if they "work or not" until I have a lot more experience with them. Some people trust them some don't. If you have mags that work, no need to modify them. If your mags are sub-par, then my post may be beneficial to you.

Using S&W factory parts (MECGAR for 9mm and .40cal - .45 uses a different manufacturer - as told to me by a reputable retailer - who is the owner of his company)... may make a difference or may not.

I'm simply sharing the information above.... do with it as you please.

Wow! Sounds like a lot of work to get aftermarket **** magazines to function reliability...

I guess that's why they call them aftermarket magazines...
