On 24 December 1970 my firing battery dropped a 105mm artillery round on 2nd platoon , A company, 1-327 Infantry. Nine men were killed instantly and three more died of their wounds. All but one survivor was wounded. An investigation showed the artillery had followed all safety measures and the round had hit precisely where aimed. The platoon leader had grossly misreported his location so a round fired at a “safe” target killed twelve men. We never heard what happened to the lieutenant except he was immediately evacuated from Vietnam for his own safety.

Every Christmas Eve has been a sad and difficult remembrance of those men.

I cannot enter a "like" but I certainly appreciate your post. I hope that you will experience the peace we have been promised by the One whose birth we commemorate.
