I was talking with a guy at the range and he asked me if
there is a way to increase recoil to be a fully mimic the ar.
I had no idea and got me kind of curious. Is there a way?
I wouldn't think so, but this guy says he thinks it could be done.
Thoughts on this?

Edit: sorry meant to be in 15-22 subforum. Please move
mods thank you.

Increasing recoil on the M&P15-22 is possible, I'm sure, but not without some major engineering and possible complete re-design.

Colt used a floating chamber to power the .22LR version of the M1911A1 to feel like it was shooting .45ACP long ago. Pre-WW2. But here we're talking vastly different recoil between .22LR and .45ACP in a pistol.

Recoil with 5.56mm is minimal to start with and has gotten less as the weight on the M16-series has climbed over the years with heavier barrels and "accessories."

You're gonna get follow up shots faster with the 15-22, but so what? ;) All the principles of trigger reset and reacquiring the front sight are still there. Shoot different targets for successive targets if you want practice in reacquisition.

been a long time but i recall my Drill Instructor shooting the M16A1 off of his chin to demonstrate how little recoil there was with that firearm.

A quick estimate of recoil energy between the M&P 15-22 and a tricked out AR indicates about 1/4 ft lb for the .22 and about 1 1/4 ft lb for the AR.

This compares to about 11 ft lb for an MI.

as usual.. im thinking out side the box.. instead of making the 15-22 kick harder which isnt a desirable feature.. muzzle tame the ar and the problem is solved.. if your ar dont kick then it doesnt matter if the 15-22 dont correct...

Im a fan of loud bang and big recoil. The only way i can see to created more recoil would be to lighten up the gun significantly.

I'm in the process of getting one. Just can't seem to fin one that fits my budget. Thinking about doing a build.

Belt fed, you have a good point. I'll let the guy know next time I see him

I'm new to shooting and these rifles

You might try to find a cone type flash hider like the Army had for the T-3 carbine and M1D rifle. They make the M1 carbine kick more like a 30-30 and the M1D slightly unpleasant to shoot. I doubt you’d find one that would fit; you’ll probably have to have it fabricated. My guess is it still wouldn’t be anywhere close to the recoil of a .223.
