Yesterday was the funeral for Police Officer Peter Figoski. For those not familiar with the story see this link:

Police Officer Peter Figoski, New York City Police Department, New York

While every LOD death is tragic, this one particularly hurts because this guy was so dedicated to his four daughters. He could have retired two years ago but kept working so he could put them all through school.

The turnout for this funeral was absolutely incredible, the best I have ever seen. Many of the old timers said they haven't seen one like this since PO Eddie Byrne's funeral in 1988. Besides the NYPD turnout the showing from other agencies was astounding. If anyone on this board personally attended or their agency sent people thank you. It really means a lot to see that kind of support.

I personally saw two officers from Chicago PD, three motorcycle cops from Baltimore (that ride had to be brutal), two bus loads of Boston PD and several cops from Rhode Island. Not to mention guys who came from the far reaches of New York, like Plattsburgh, Oneonta and Syracuse. The New Jersey State Troopers sent a large contingent as well. The New York State Troopers along with Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester County PDs (including all the town PDs within) came out in force too. There was even a noticable amount of FDNY there.

Again, if you or agency was represented thank you. Your support will not be forgotten. The brotherhood is alive and well.

That case is specially tragic seeings how the guy who killed him was already wanted for murder in North Carolina, and had appeared a before a judge in NY for another charge not too long before the Policeman was murdered. The connection to the NC case was not made and the judge released this piece of garbage.
Sincere condolences to his family,
Steve W.

Old timers (like I used to try to be like-now I'm trying not to be one of them) are the guys that keep a shift together-they seem to be able to pick up the pieces, when newbies foul up and cover their backside.

Guys were raving about the turnout. A bout of stomach flu kept me off the bus down to the funeral at 4AM-good for everyone there, bad for me.
