Outdoor indirect light is orders of magnitude better

Here are two photos of magazine floorplates

I think both turned out pretty well. I take all of my photos with my phone and I have much better results outdoors than I do indoors.

Unfortunately, some of us live in apartments without private porches/balconies (or any at all), and have no good outdoor place to take pictures of firearms, for fear of inviting theft, or not wanting to be bothered with anti-gun imbeciles.

All of my gun photography is done on a DIY macrophotography/still life table, and lit with 300w equivalent CFLs.

Try next to window on a cloudy day
Ohio has lots of days like that

Indirect window lighting is an excellent source for beauty photos.

I've used it for products, people and food with great success.

So did all the great painters before electricity.

For really shiny items, open shade works great. (patio or over hang/wall in full shade, add a curtain of white cloth/sheets to break up any stray light)

That being said, The new crop of digital camera are so good, now you can use candle light and get dramatic results.

Here's my setup. I bounce the light of the white ceiling. No shadows or glare. And when I'm not using the table to take pictures, I fold laundry on it.
