I picked this up on a GB auction for $15. I'd never seen or owned one before now. I've owned numerous Tyler T grip adapters but never one made by S&W. It was described as NOS (new old stock) with the original box. The box has "MED." Ink stamped on one end of the box. What does it fit? Please advise any info you may have on these (i.e. when made, what does it fit, are they desireable, etc.).

These came in 3 sizes = Large for N frames, Medium for K frames and small for I & J frames. They are not rare and can usually be found on Ebay and at gun shows for $20 range. If you ordered a gun NIB from S&W with these adapters installed, the stocks came with a small cut out on their front edge to accommodate the adapter's frame clamps. Ed.

To my knowledge, they were not made by S&W, but were Pachmayr-produced for the company. In material and fit, they appear identical to the Pach adapters except for the labeling.

I have one that came installed on a Pre-Model 10 M&P that was in service with an NYPD patrolman from 1959 until the 1980s.

I'm not sure about the "cut-out" that Ed mentioned. These (and the identical Pachmayr and Mershon versions) require you to tighten down the grip screw pretty hard for the adapter to stay firmly in place. Any cut-out of the wood would make securing them rattle-free difficult.

I think I've had, maybe 2 or 3 guns NIB with factory installed grip adapters, in years past, that came with the small "slots" in the stocks to fit securely around the fingers of the adapters. I believe they were made for S&W by Pachmayr, probably 60s to 70s vintage. Ed.

I thank all of those that supplied info on this adapter. I own a few S&W guns but didn't own my first untill 1979. I'm always impressed with the wealth of knowledge the members have here.
