We can hope Jim (Hondo44) comes along and replies to this. He is probably the best one to assist you, since he's our resident expert on the small frame revolvers.

I will say the target version of the Chiefs Special is uncommon to begin with, so your chances of a high value are good.

According to Roy Jinks, in History of Smith & Wesson, there were 100 Chiefs Special Target models made in 1955 between serial numbers 55050 and 57919.

I watched one in the 550XX range, described as "As New in the Box" sell at auction in September for almost $3,000.

OH WELL. CHANGED HIS MIND. GOING TO GIVE IT TO HIS SON. KEEPING IT IN THEIR FAMILY IT WAS HIS UNCLES GUN.

THANKS GUYS. YOU WERE A LOT OF HELP. JP

My next-door neighbor 35 years ago had one of these. He was elderly then. Had some fine guns; I've often wondered what became of them. There were a couple I traded him - a pristine Remington 03 Springfield with a scant stock, a 629 no dash 4", and a 5" pre-27.
