I am Carol, daughter of ancient one. I have some concerning news regarding his health. Two weeks ago he was taken to a hospital in great pain with a severe case of pancreatitis. They were able to relieve the inflammation and pain, but he was sick to his stomach and aspirated particles into his lung. That put him in ICU for nearly a week to observe for pneumonia. He was free of that, so was released into a inpatient rehab facility. He could not perform the rehab, too much time in bed and he had become very frail even before this. He asked for family to meet and he told us he was tired (at 98+, we didn't doubt that). He was perfectly lucid about his decision, and we were sad to call in hospice, but that is his wish. Likely will be awhile in hospice. He eats a little bit, drinks liquids and occasionally enjoys a small Braums chocolate malt.

He has spent many enjoyable hours with this forum and asked me to inform his friends here. I could never find his password, so when I came back today, I joined. And that took me quite some time. But he was adamant that I let his friends know. Be assured he values this forum a great deal. Now I can go back to see him tomorrow without the threatened spanking of my 78 year old behind. If anyone wants to have me tell him of messages, I will print them to read to him. You must be a great group of people, as he really did want you all to know.

Thank you, Carol, for letting us know. I have been watching for you to join since your email to us. Sorry you had a problem.
Please keep us informed. Give my regards to Graydon. He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Carol, thanks for letting us know about your Dad. He's a true treasure on here, with a legion of fans and admirers.

Your Dad's posts have always been a pleasure to read...gentlemanly and courteous, interesting, and totally free of even a hint of negativity. He writes very well, and thinks very logically, something a lot of folks who are one-third his age cannot do!

Please shake his hand for me, give him a hug from all of us, and please let him know that our hearts are with him -- and you -- at this time.

Dear Carol, I'm so sorry to hear this news. Graydon mentioned he was going for 100, and I and I'm sure others here were pulling for him to do that, but as I've seen in elderly people in my own family, sometimes one becomes just too tired to go on.

Thank you for reaching out to us, and thank Graydon for thinking of us in his condition. He may be frail, but he's still a large man to do that. He was always a gentleman, an interesting and thoughtful scribe, and I'll miss his presence here.

Now, go be with your Dad, and may he spend his days in comfort with the grace of God.
