My father left me an antique handgun but I have no information about it. I will upload a couple of pictures that might hopefully help identify the year and model information. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Hi There,

Welcome to the Forum!

What you have is a S&W Model No. 2 "Old Army" revolver. Yours is a early "2 pin"
version They changed to 3 pins between serial numbers 2962 and 3109. I believe
your revolver was probably made in 1861.

Cheers!

Thank you very much for the information. I should have talked with my father about it before he passed but it was unexpected and I simply did not get the chance. Thanks again for your help in identifying the gun for me.

Welcome! Is that a 4" or 5" barrel? The 4" is very uncommon and the 5" is not as common as the standard 6" barrel length. You might do well to do some genealogy searching on your father's side of the family to see if you have a Civil War veteran as an ancestor? These revolvers were very popular as a private purchase for those going into the war.
