Where this month?
Recently I answered an ad for a 3rd Gen Smith. Come to find out the seller is a young mid 20's kid that just received 400 guns from his Grandfather.

I am pressing as hard as I can to be first in line. So far the guns he's offering are just a start..

Sure hoping for an RM or other collectables..waiting for the list.

Why wasn't I born later with a collector in my family..:(

I'm down to my last 60 or so firearms because there were no family members who wanted my 350+ collection. I've been selling then off over the past few years.

I don't want to tell you how many I (and 2 sisters) were left but its been very difficult to say the least.

The good thing is the previous owner sold over 100 of then before he passed away. Duplicates and the
ones that he really wasn't all that interested in.

As I read the original post some may think, "how can this grandson so casually sell off a gun collection that was obviously important to his grandfather." There was a time I might have thought about the sentimental aspect of the collection.

But, I changed my mind about 20 years ago when my father-in-law passed away. He had no sons and I was apparently his favorite son-in-law. He was also an avid golfer with lots of expensive golf equipment, about a dozen sets of clubs and all the accoutrements that with the sport. Problem is, I don't golf. In fact, I pretty much hate golf, and now I have all this stuff I don't want. I ended up selling off sets of golf clubs that were allegedly worth upwards of a thousand dollars for a hundred bucks. Some of my buddy's who were golfers said I was nuts for how cheap I was selling this stuff but I just wanted it gone, it didn't mean anything to me.

I can see how someone who is not into guns would be if they suddenly got "stuck" with a gun collection they don't want.

Understand being stuck with some stuff that you don't want, or even care about. Everybody has their own interests and such, so one man's treasure can be another man's garbage, or exactly the opposite. However, it seems to me that some thought about the value of the items needs to realized by benefactor if they actually cared for the deceased. Donating, or having the items sold by an auction house, and having the proceeds go to a worthwhile charity in memory of the deceased would be an very worthwhile endeavor.. Or maybe his grand kids college...

Old story...
I showed my wife the list of all my guns, which includes make, model, serial number and value. I told her to sell them through a major auction house if anything happens to me.

She looked me right in the eyes and said, "I would never sell your treasures... I'd use them to get another guy".:eek:
Then she laughed like an idiot!

I have a feeling that this happens all to often. Not to the extent that the O.P. mentioned though.
I like several others have mentioned am slowly trying to decide what from my assortment will be offered for sale. As great as they are, how many model 19/66's is it necessary to have?

Toad67 and Mr. Downtown.
Let's be practical, gosh I hate to use that term. I'm lucky enough to have the following:
Five 2 ½" model 19's. three blued and two nickel finished. All are the "P&R" versions. As well as five 4" P&R model 19"s.

Three 2 ½" model 66's.
One 3" model 66, which happens to be ordered on my birth month and day revolver.
Two 3" model 65's. One being a M 65-5 "lady smooth.

Being a normal "working kinda guy" Do either of you really expect me to buy any more vintage guns:D?

Fred

Why yes, yes we do Fred. There's no room for slouchers here on this forum...

I really like guns, and I shudder to think how overwhelming it would be to inherit 400 of them.

If you inheret 400 guns, start a thread. I am willing to bet there are "helpers" on this board near your location...

Edit: I googled it, you are less than a tank of gas away. :)
