I'm an old revolver guy and only own two auto pistols, a Beretta M9 and an STI Trojan .45. I'm relearning shooting skills after a 30 plus year lay-off. I knew nothing about autos and bought the Beretta as my first auto pistol mainly because I liked the looks and it was all metal.

I wasn't able to hit well with the Beretta so it hasn't been used much. Its SA trigger wasn't as good as the Smith revolvers. I tried a range rental 1911 style .45 (an STI) and liked that trigger. I could hit better with it than the Beretta. It seems at my low level of experience with autos that a good trigger helps.

I started considering a more accurate 9mm pistol and tried a rental Glock 17 and a Glock 34. Neither was more accurate than the Beretta and they had worse trigger feel than my Beretta. I really wanted to try an M&P but the range didn't have any.

Lately, I started reloading 9 mm and practicing with the Beretta lots more. Turns out its pretty accurate and it was my shooting that was poor. I still want an M&P 9 Pro. Now finally comes my question to you M&P owners. Allowing that an M&P is striker fired and learning trigger control is a given, how does it compare trigger-wise to a Glock, or even a Beretta M9/92? I have gotten over the "plastic" gun aversion and will likely buy a new Pro unless y'all talk me out of it!

I am a long time pistol instructor (40+ years) and a current Illinois concealed carry permit instructor as wellas an IL police firearms instructor and NRA pistol instructor.
(nothing like blowing my own horn, eh?)

I carry an M&P 9 Pro almost daily in an overwatch IWB holster. I did a review on that holster for the The Truth About Guns.

I have fired a lot of different pistols over the years and can afford to own just about anything. I like the M&P Pro because of both the ergonamics (the grip is excellent) but also because of the accuracy.

But, I also know that every individual is different and finding a pistol that just feels right is everything. While I very highly endorse the M&P I think finding one to shoot along with several others (I also like the FNS 9 and the Sig P320) that you might like is really important.

Also consider..........

If you like (or at least can live with) steel guns, give the Cz-75 a look. Ergonomic, accurate, reasonably priced, high quality. They have a lot going for them........

I'm an old revolver shooter and the M&P Pro 5" with FO sights is my IDPA/SSP and USPSA/Production pistol,
BUT you said something in your post that sets off alarm bells.
If you mostly shoot your revolvers single action and haven't mastered the long pull of a double action revolver, I expect you will hate the M&P trigger, which is similar to the Glock.

It seems at my low level of experience with autos that a good trigger helps.
It is unfortunately true that a heavy gun and light trigger mask trigger control problems, while a light gun and long or heavy pulls exacerbate them.

Are you ever right! I have been doing lots more DA shooting with revolvers. I'm getting better at it. Lots to learn!
