This flag is also called the Gonzales Banner of 1835. In 1831 Mexican authorities provided the settlers of Gonzales with a cannon for their protection. As Santa Anna assumed more power and civil unrest began to spread, the Mexican military felt it unwise to leave the residents of Gonzales with a weapon so the Mexican Military Militia went to Gonzales to retrieve the cannon. The Texans responded by raising a banner that included a star over a cannon over the words "Come and Take it". I was just going through some of the flags of our history and this one caught my eye, especially with all of the gun control balogna (putting it VERY nicely) going on. I saw renditions of this flag with an ar-15 on them as well. Just thought I would share.

I 've seen the flag in the pic many times, but I think the real one was a black outline of the cannon and star. Not a black cannon. I do think the black cannon looks better.

There is a "Come and Take It" org who just last week, had a rally here in Corpus Christi. There were over 300 folks who had loaded firearms of all types who marched in that peaceful rally. I was irked with the local nbc news channel for doing their version of the story which showed only about 12-14 people for the entire "rally" which the local ABC station showed most of the group which included people from all walks of life-different sexes and racial origins--and numbered from over 300-to-400.
