I saw this rifle online locally and figured it was very different from anything I have in a large caliber in terms of barrel length. It's a Navy arms rolling block 45-70 with a 18 inch barrel. It was teamed up with a mossberg 395kb bolt action 12 ga that's unfired, which I didn't need. But the man would only sell them as a pair. He was asking 300.00 for both so I figured I would go for it. The brass on the rifle was brown so I cleaned and polished the whole rifle and it 's looking better now. It's got holes behind the hammer for a tang sight. But I'm wondering how far I would be able to hit anything with 18 inches of barrel. I thought it was a good deal. Can't wait to fire the rifle. I know it's going to kick like a donkey.

45/70 is a fun caliber to shoot and handload for. 18" of barrel should be sufficient, a Marlin Guide Gun has the same barrel length, and they get good accuracy.

Let us know how the rifle shoots once you take it to the range..

That Mossburg 12 gauge bolt is a twin to my first shotgun re-1966. I shot a few birds with that and even doubled on Pheasant once. Tough to do with a bolt. Thanks for the memories, my Nephew shoots it now.
