A while back I purchased a Ruger New Vaquero . 45 Colt. It was sold as used, but appeared to never have been fired. Came with plastic case, manual, but no key for the safety mechanism.
I just called Ruger to see about getting a key in case the mechanism ever activated. The lady in customer service explained that Ruger has no keys available anymore. If the internal locking mechanism is locked the revolver has to be returned to Ruger. If unlocked and you want to change things they will change the frame to a new one without the lock, but the cost is $300.
In my case the mechanism is unlocked, so no issue. But I found the fact that an internal locking mechanism was originally installed, now it isn’t, and keys are no longer available.
Interesting how things change! My suspicion is that the company position is not set in stone depending upon who is in charge? Seems to be occurring with anything related to the firearms industry, heck maybe anything manufactured?
