Iowa Joined the 21st Century!!

Last month the state legislature passed a bill changing Iowa from a "May issue" state to a "Shall issue" state.

Yesterday the governor finally signed it!!!!! It becomes effective Jan 1st, 2011!!

Now I don't have to renew every year....new permits will be good for 5 years.

Does the new law include a provision for reciprocity or recognition of other state's licenses?

Yes, there will be reciprocity as long as those states training and qualifications are at least on the same level as Iowa's, which is rather vague, as our 99 counties all have their own set of regulations. Details are still forthcoming.

That is great.New York is a "May Issue" state that has full carry except that class A cities can place "Reasonable Restrictions"when you may lawfully carry.The "Kingdom of New York City"is another animal altogether.They are allowed to consider invalid all NYS Pistol Licenses in thier jurisdiction yet NYC license is valid thruout the state.Target licenses aren't valid for carry period.It must be in a locked box with ammo separately.New York is so Anti-Gun that license regulations are carried in the PENAL LAW.In other words exercise your 2nd ammendment rights and you are considered a criminal.......God Bless.....Mike.
