I would like to replace the gold bead front sight on my 625-8 with a plain black one but am having trouble finding that. Can anyone here point me in the right direction?

Go to the Smith & Wesson Web Site and select the Web Store. On there you will find a variety of sights for the revolvers that use the interchangeable sight system.

I just went through that same excercise about a month ago.
I really dislike the gold bead sight on my 625.
I tried several sources.
Midway and Brownell's were out of stock.
I ended up buying the "Sight Bag Assy", prod # 221300000from the S&W store for $65.
You get an assortment of sights, all but one being .250 high,
that can be used in any S&W Classic or DX revolver:
-Black Ramp Front Sight .250
-Patridge 50 Meter Front Sight .250
-Patridge White Dot Front Sight .250
-Patridge Gold Bead Sight Assy .227
They had it in stock and shipped it right away.
