Recent rule changes in CMP EIC "leg" matches now allow Models 10 & 15 as service pistols for distinguished competitions. I have a K38 Target from 1954 that I use for bullseye centerfire competition, and I love it. So since this was before S&W started using model numbers, but is basically the same gun, would anyone have knowledge as to whether or not a K38 could be considered an early model 10 or 15?

The K38 was a 6" barrel pistol, while the Model 15 was a 4" barrel adopted by the military police as one of their service pistols. The model 10, 4" was also a service (carry) pistol.

The K38 is really not an "early model" 10 or 15.

K-38's rule Reeves and DR matches. Done it.

Good question. CMP is a different organization than the NRA. Often (quite often, really!) their rules conflict. (Heck, a few years back they really ticked off folks when their respective National Match schedules conflicted!)
Distinguished Revolver and Reeves Matches are NRA. (See post #3 above.) EIC Service Pistol is CMP.
CMP is very pure in the spirit of what is a "service" pistol.

But, to answer your question, no, the K-38 (which became the model 14) is not legal for CMP EIC matches. I suspect the listing is worded to specifically prohibit the K-38.
But, I am certain that if you showed up with a pre-model number Military & Police "pre-10" you would have no trouble.
With that in mind, I wonder how they'd feel about a 6" M&P 38 revolver? That would be VERY cool for a CMP EIC match!
(Addendum: according to Rule 4.1.4, barrel length must be no more than 5.4", so "no go" on long barrel model 10s.)

PS: here's the list for anyone who's curious

Thanks for the replies. I guess the K38 is a no-go, being it was the predecessor to the Model 14, not the 10 or 15 and the 5.4" barrel rule.

I guess I'll have to stick with my 1911 and S&W 910.
