I never see any discussion about the 625 45 acp. It's always the 625 LC or a model 25. Both are great guns but those of us that have a 625 chambered in 45 acp need to express our love for this gun.

This is my second 625-2 and is the one I'm keeping. Like many foolish thing that I've done in my younger days I parted with my 4" 625-2 that I used in USPSA for several years and later regretted it. At least in my area you rarely see a 625 or for that mater any revolver in 45 acp so acquiring another took twenty years but it was worth it.

When I was young and shooting USPSA a good friend shot mostly revolvers and his 5" 625 45acp was his primary choice. Actually the only thing that might tempt me to trade is a 5" 625 45 acp.

Do you love your 625 in 45 acp?

I still have the original grips but like the cushioned blackstrap. It's much easier on arthritic hands a wrists.

I have a later JM model. Love it. Wish I had gotten on the wagon a few engineering mods earlier.

I bought both my 625's used but this one is particularly smooth and stages perfectly. I don't know if there's been any work on it but wouldn't be surprised.

I've been curious about the JM version but never shot one.

Ok. 625-8 JM

I have a 625-6. I really like the gun. Unfortunately, it has been a disappointment in terms of accuracy. I have run about every kind of store bought round with a reputation for accuracy, and about ever recipe of hand load that shoots great in my other .45 ACPs through it from a bench rest with a good scope at 25 yards. The best group that it has ever shot was with Federal Gold Medal Match 185 gr Semi Wadcutter. Ten groups of five averaged 2.03 inches. Everything else runs from 2.5 to 3.42 inches. If you average all the tests of all the ammo that I have done, it is a 2.75 inch at 25 yard gun. Frankly this is the only Smith that I own that shoots this bad.

I have measured and checked out everything on the gun that I can. The cylinder throats are all right on the money. The gap is good. No bulge in the barrel from crush fitting that I can find. Cylinders all line up tight and dead nuts.

I suspect either the forcing cone or the barrel crown. Cone looks a little rough inside and crown looks good, but not perfect. There is not much of a crown there to begin with from the factory. What there is has a very tiny ding in one area. You really have to look to see it, but if you do, it is there.

I have a guy lined up to do the cone and crown. We will see then. In the mean time, like I said, I really like the gun. It is more than good enough for minute of beer can at the range and such. We have a lot of fun shooting that and my 25-2 (which is an inch and a half gun at 25 yards - no two cylinder throats the same size - go figure)

Plenty of love for my 5" 625-2 and 3" 625-3. I regret selling my 4". Also love my 625-6 MG .45 Colt

One of our members sold me his 5-inch 625. It's a heavy gun, and it gets heavier as I get older. :o I enjoy shooting it. I can't tell much difference in accuracy, if any, between shooting it with clips or without. The previous owner took it to Nelson Ford for some minor improvements, which made it a very nice gun. It's been a pleasure to own. I should shoot it more often. I would guess it's a bit more accurate than any of the 25-2s I've owned, and considerably more accurate than a couple of them. I need one in 4-inch. ;)

It may have something to do with the rifling, though I don't know that for sure, but my 625-6 5" is noticeably more accurate with a hard cast bullet than a soft one. This is contrary to all I've come to know about cast bullets in revolvers.

Accuracy is certainly acceptable with a soft bullet. Since I cast the same bullet (a SAECO copy of the H&G #68) for other .45 ACP revolvers and Colt 1911s, I'm not going to change to a hard bullet for one gun.

I'm a huge fan of 45acp revolvers. I have a five. Two are around 65 years old and two are 104 years old. I bought a 625-2 (Model of 1988) a few years ago on a whim because the price and condition made it very attractive. Even though it was a little out of my collecting wheelhouse, it has become one of my favorites. During the ammo madness, I shot a lot of 45gap out of it because it was available and cheap by comparison to 45 acp. The higher pressure made me leary about shooting it out of my older guns. The 625 is accurate and balances very well with its 5" barrel. For me, a great all around revolver.

Shot my 625 in zsa and uspsa combat matches many times. I have a clever Moonclip Server Belt Loader that I use. Instead of a row of magnetic pins and having to reach to a different location for each reload it has a spring loaded slide on a rail that moves the clips right or left so that you reach to the same place on your belt for each reload. Great idea. I added a thin piece of hard thin plastic between each clip to make it smoother to use. The 625 is the most accurate revolver I've ever owned.
