Is this normal wear?

Love the weapon. I think it is a home run. I shot around 2k rounds through without any issues. Is this normal wear? This part of the cutout is very thin where the bullet seats.

I can't tell what you are referring to. I see nothing out of the ordinary or that is the least bit worn. I have about 15k through mine with no noticeable wear on anything.

Thanks for the quick reply. The wear in question is right at the rim of the barrel where to bullet sits. You can see that there is a tiny chip where the cutout is for the extractor hook on the bolt. You can see it a little better on the second picture. That area is very thin.

Either I am too anal about my guns or you guys are blind! I circled the area I am asking about in red. I don't think the extractor on the bolt actually strikes that part but I might be wrong. I am assuming this is nothing to worry about from the responses I am getting?

I see the chip in your last picture, don't think it will cause any problems as long as it doesn't get any worse.
Send a picture to the manufacture and see what they say.

I don't mean to be a SA but good luck getting brass to wear out case-hardened steel. That's part of the point of using brass. Brass is significantly softer than steel. IMO, you couldn't live long enough to chamber enough rounds (by hand) to ever wear the chamber by a measurable amount if you tried 24x7x365 for the rest of your life.

The chip appears to be a manufacturing defect to me or may have just happened but it is not "wear" per se. I'd shoot the heck out of it and never worry about it if it were me.

S&W will probably replace it but only from a liability standpoint because you have now raised the issue. They will err on the side of caution (read: the lawyers said replace it) but probably not because it matters.

I heard back from them. They said it is normal wear and not to worry about it. However I checked my friend's rifle and it has markings there but it is not chipped like mine. So I am just going to keep shooting it and see if it gets any worse.
