haha. sorry for the cheesy title. Seriously though, i traded my factory Glock 17 for this M&P with full apex trigger and warren sights (not installed yet), which was already stippled on the front strap. decided i might want to shoot IDPA / USPSA with it one of these days so i started looking into the rules. as it turns out, this stippling would put me in ESP in IDPA (which doesn't mean it's not an option, i just know that to be true). USPSA rules, however, allow some stippling (see diagram below). I'm curious whether the line on the glock below is specifically to block out the mag release (it is express in the rules that mag releases can't be stippled) or if i really can't have this little bit of stippling under the trigger guard in the production class.

any help is much appreciated.

here is appendix E4 from USPAP book showing where stippling is allowed

here's the M&P

It says front strap. And where is the front strap? Under the trigger guard.

Sorry a little punchy this morning.

I see it written as no tape can be applied to trigger guard. That's stippling to the M&P. I'd sure argue that point if it's not accepted.

thanks. wasn't really sure how literally to take the "front strap" verbiage.

I would hazard a guess that at local club level matches you'll be OK. However, by the letter of the rules, I think, it is illegal. It does extend from the front strap to the underside of the trigger guard - I think that is why the indicator line in the illustrations goes behind the mag release - to prevent the stippling or tape application to the juncture of trigger guard and front strap. JMO.

Sorry, to me you're clearly ineligible for Production Division in USPSA and would need to declare Limited. The stippling is on the trigger guard.

USPSA CRO.

that's why i figured. Okay that means i may end up just starting in IDPA ESP until i can pony up for a factory pro model (then swap the pro trigger for the apex in the current m&p? hmm...)

Moot point anyway as the Apex trigger is disallowed in USPSA Production...

21.6 ...Examples of external components
which may only be replaced with OFM parts
include (but are not limited to): magazine
releases, slide stops, thumb safeties and
triggers.

Shoot it in Limited 10.
