On one of the two occasions my wife had to point her Registered Magnum at someone, she first pointed it, then had to cock it, before the charming gentleman would leave. Of course, she was also ready to shoot and had legal grounds for doing so. If it had gone off, it would have been OK. Except, perhaps, for the charming gentleman.
But on the other hand, my wife is the calmest person I know.
When she got a double spiral fracture of her tibia on the Washington coast and got hoisted up into the Coast Guard helicopter in the gurney, the rescue jumper kept taking her pulse. He couldn't believe that it was only 66.
That's up from her rest rate of 60.
