Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters Monday at the Pentagon that the military working dog injured during the raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been returned to duty. UPDATE: DECLASSIFIED PICTURE IN POST #7!

President Trump told reporters Sunday that a military working dog had been wounded during the American commando raid after chasing the elusive ISIS leader down a dead-end tunnel.

Al-Baghdadi detonated a suicide vest killing himself and three children in the tunnel with him, according to Trump.

Milley said the dog was only “slightly wounded” and was fully recovering. The dog, he explained, was still in theater and returned to duty with his handler.

The name of the dog or his breed is not being released due to the classification of the unit involved in the raid.

These "War dogs" are vital parts of our Special Operations units. It's not generally known, but dogs on active duty are assigned a rank one step higher than their handlers - recognition of their value in the field.

Here are some pics of dogs assigned to Delta Force and other Special Ops units - each deserves a salute and our thanks for being there for our troops. The Belgian Malinois dogs are a popular pick for duty, as they are usually more compact for air drops than the German Shepherds, but both are serving.

God must have been watching over them. To be in a dead end tunnel when the coward detonated his vest and to have no casualties on our side is truly amazing. I was really expecting the dog to have grievous injuries. To hear that he has already returned to duty really made my day. Thanks for the heads up, John.

How does a dog pull a parachute ripcord? Static line? Didn't see it in the photo.

I really don't know, but a scientific wild-assed guess would be that the opening of a chute for a dog would be altimeter controlled. However, that last photo makes me think it was taken from a chopper rear ramp over close water, judging by the waves below. Note that the handler has no chute...

Had the great pleasure to experience working with several police working dogs and they are special animals and worth their weight in gold. Belgian Melinois were always referred as German Shepherds on Crack AND Meth. To say they are hyper is the ultimate understatement.

I wonder what kind of mood the dog is in after going out the back of an airplane and getting his feet back on the ground? I'm not sure the dog was thinking "wow" and let's go do that again
