A new Cabelas opened in Greenville, SC. I was in town on business and dropped by to see what the store was like. [I've have been to the online site but never in one of their physical stores].

It's a big store and very busy on opening day. Walked around, picked up a box of ammo from Serbia [quality?????] to try and then ambled into the "gun library". No books inside; used handguns. Walking around the attractive, well-displayed area and.....there it was, tucked toward the back of a well lit display case: A K-17-4, 22 caliber S&W revolver with a scope.

AHHHHHHhhhh! I didn't have the cash so I had to walk away. I have dreamed of having this revolver in conjunction with my 617.

Maybe it was good that I didn't have the cash; my family would have gone hungry for a while.

I made the right decision, but there was a wonderful moment when I first spied it.

The ammo may be S&B and if so it is first rate. I stopped at the Cabelas in Omaha last year on my way to SD and bought a bunch of it in 9mm, 380 and 32.

We have a new Cabelas opening here in a few weeks - anxious to check it out.

I stopped by there today and couldn't even find a parking space. I'll let it calm down some...

Cabela's has layaway available on gun purchases.

There is one opening here. In the back by the mountain and fish tank,I am doing the structural welding that is beneath the concrete mountain. I think its going to be a climbing wall. Not sure.
Looking forward to it opening giving some competition to the other gun shops.

S&B is Czech. SERBIA is PPU. Regardless, both are good quality ammo. PPU makes ammo in many calibers but usually a little downloaded. They've been making ammo for close to 200 years

I'll give it a couple of weeks before I check out the new Cabela's. It's only about 5 minutes from my office.

You sure about that? It was mostly muzzleloaders back in 1814.

PPU's website says the company started in 1927.

Prvi Partizan Ammunition

I could have sworn I read somewhere they were older than that. Maybe I'm thinking of a firearms company. Either way they make good ammo

There is to be a new Cabelas store built soon in a shopping mall just
about 10-12 miles from my house. I'm curious as to how their store
might compare to Dicks and Gander MTD as far as selection and prices?

Gander Mountain isn't even in the same league - Dick's isn't on the same planet.

Now Bass Pro shop is a good equal for Cabelas in some depts even better. All these big box stores are way over priced to pay for all the glitter and show and expensive real estate they choose. The operating cost for just one store????

I wish I could remember where I read it within the last week or so, Cabela's is going to be opening quite a few more stores across the country. The stock price has also went up a goodly amount too.

The biggest thing that ticks me off about Cabela's though is, it seems like all their clothing, and several other items are all marked with the Cabela's logo....

Some of their stuff seems like good stuff, but I just don't want to be their walking bill board advertiser.

Ammo prices...not too bad...Gun prices...I think on the high side.

I don't know if they do like Bass Pro or not. BPS branded t-shirts are usually very inexpensive ($9.99 or less instead of $15.99+), but well made. To me, it is kinda like they are paying you to advertise.:) I don't mind buying them if it is like that.
