Yesterday I stopped by the biggest gun shop in the area. Now you need to understand that out in the floor area are four large glass display cases each of which can hold 36 long guns. Normally one full case and often half another is filled with various makes and models of the AR-15s. I walked in there and saw three left!

And those three were the high end models with prices tags over $2000.That's just the beggining. To start with I had to park half a block away. The store was packed. No AKs but I did see a couple of Mini-14s and several shotguns head out the door. Those not buying guns were getting ammo and magazines like crazy. I watched the show for a few minutes and left empty handed.
Today we have a gun show. I got there just before the doors opened. Had to park way back in the south 40. Normally there's a fair sized line of folks waiting to get in. I swear, the line was at least a 1/4 mile stretched across the parking lot. What's more, when I left two hours later, the line was just as long.
Once I got inside, I took notice of what was there and what wasn't. Notably was a shortage of ARs. Didn't see any AKs or Mini-14s. Seems these dealers sold most of what they had before coming to the gun show. Of the ARs that were there, prices were outragous! Stagg Arms basic model- $1499, S&W M&P15- $1799, Sig Sauer AR- $2299.
And it wasn't just the guns. Wolf 7.62X39 - $350 per case, New AR mags - $50 and up. One guy had a box of very well used Viet Nam era 20 round M-16 mags- $25 each. And it was all selling like hot cakes! Case after case of ammunition headed out the door. You couldn't move around any tables where they were selling magazines or ammo.
I took one sweep through the show, didn't see anything of real interest to me and was ready to go. Unfortunatly, my younger son was with me and he was doing his Christmas shopping for his friends. He was just getting things like pocket knives and odds and ends. But due to the crowd, he was having trouble getting to the tables selling this stuff. So after another hour, we finally managed to get the hell outta there. And I was glad to be leaving that mess.

I guess Obama finally found a way to stimulate the economy after all.

Made the mistake of stopping my semi-local “police supply” store yesterday afternoon, as I needed a pair of boots. The large parking lot was jammed inside was ever worse, folks were three deep buying any AR-15 style weapon in stock, as well as any 9 M/M up caliber pistol in stock and as much ammo as the store would let them buy.

Overhearing some of the questions and observing the amount of “schooling” that was going on, at the sales counter, it was obvious that most of these folks were first time firearm owners/buyers. It looked like IBM had sent ½ of their mid management team to pick up firearms.

“I guess Obama finally found a way to stimulate the economy after all.” I think you may well be right. What will be interesting is to see how many of these show up unfired on the used market in 12 -24 months, if there are no new federal bans.

Went to Shooters in Racine just to look and they have no ARs. Springfields, Mini14s they do have some semi auto pistols left nothing I wanted.
