In the past, I had owned two Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I had a 1967 Model 10-6 and a 1964 Model 27-2. I had traded the Model 10 and some cash for the 27-2 and (in a moment of complete stupidity) traded the 27 for a Colt Combat Commander.

I had told myself I would not rest until I got myself another S&W. I'm on a limited budget and a (mostly) fixed income, so just going out and buying one was out of the question.

I had done some horse trading and wound up with a like new Ruger LCR that, while a perfectly fine revolver, just wasn't a Smith & Wesson.

I found myself at a local gun show and took the LCR......and found a Model 10-6 on one of the tables. I asked the guy if he wanted an LCR (box, accessories, etc...) he said he would....and I came home with a Smith & Wesson. I don't believe this one is going anywhere. I certainly learned my lesson from before and I am holding on to this one!

She's a 1969 10-6 (according to the very friendly Allison at S&W customer service).

I have taken off the grips to see if she had been back to the factory for service and cannot see any indication that she has.

She features a Bo-Mar cover rib that comes off nicely with some hex screws. Factory sight is underneath.

The only thing I don't care for is the Hogue Monogrip. A guy from one of the local gun forums is sending me some wood service stocks for her. I can't wait to get her back to the original 1969 look.

Congrats on the find. ;)

I've posted it before and will again: the Model 10 heavy barrel is one of my all-time favorite revolvers. Enjoy yours...

Welcome back to Smith & Wesson! I too like the heavy barrel M10.
Good trade btw. I own a Ruger LCR, and it's a nice little super light carry revolver, but its no Smith.

I believe I would have made the same trade, myself. Congrats on your find! I like the heavy barreled model 10's too.

Great shooter with or without the BoMar Rib. Enjoy that Model 10-6. If you get the service stocks and the grip is too small, order a Tyler T for a K frame Square Butt from Tyler's in Ok. Does wonders for grip and control on my 10-10 HB.

That is so COOL looking! Wood is good. There are some nice stocks out there.
I had a GP100 for a SHORT time. Had a 1962 Trooper .357 Mag. Sold it though it had a wonderful trigger. Smith is my revolver of choice!
Enjoy your 10! Bob
