I'VE DECIDED TO POST MY 30 MINUTE LIONEL TRAIN VIDEO - HOPE YOU ENJOY IT.

That's a Jim Dandy layout. I have a friend who's big time into trains. My bro has also made some great scenery for his layout. I'm into trains but have too many other activities on the burner. It's a shame that not as many people have productive hobbies like we used to. One thing I'm NOT is a modeler.

I know cabooses (caboosi?) are passe' but I still like to see them.

Some of mine actually smoke when I remember to put smoke fluid in them. I always remember the Engines but usually forget the Cabooses. :o

If I recall we used to use a few drops of regular 3-1 type oil.

While 3 in 1 oil would more than likely smoke - I would think it would also be toxic coming from petroleum distillates. Some guys use Baby Oil (if you don't mind the baby diaper small) however the Lionel Smoke Fluid works quite well and a $5 bottle lasts for long time. In the older Locomotives from the 1940's and 1950's I use the old Smoke Pellets that look like Aspirin tablets. They have not been made since the mid 1960's but are still easy to find at Train Shows and on ebay. They use to sell for 25 - 50 cents per bottle and can now command prices as high as $25-$30 (or more) Bucks per bottle!

The 3 in 1 oil would be fine for lubricating the wheels, drivers and axles though but I wouldn't want to be in a room filled with smoking 3 in 1. I run 7 trains at the same time once in a while and when all of them are smoking I have an exhaust fan that I turn on to clear the room.

The one thing I must mention is that the old Lionel Smoke Pellets have a very distinctive smell and to Train enthusiasts is as good as Hoppes #9 is to Gun Guys!! The liquid smoke = ehhh.

NOTE: in the late 1990's - early 2000's the old Lionel Smoke Pellets were in such high demand, they were actually being counterfeited! BUT - to collectors, one whiff and we knew they were fakes.

I have enough for a long long time! :D :D

My grandfather was a railroad dispatcher in Punxsutawney, PA. I used to go up to his office and be fascinated seeing the telegraph keys and the teletype machine. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

If I'm not mistaken, my wife and I got "stuck" at that very spot about a year ago! We were coming home from visiting my Son and DIL in Pittsburgh and went that route just to see some of the small towns instead of the boring white line on the highway. Just as we pulled up to the RR crossing in Punxsutawney, the crossing gates went down. It was a 175 car freight train and it took about 30 some odd minutes to pass by - moving quite slowly. While I was pretending to be inconvenienced (to my wife that is) I think she KNEW I was enjoying every minute we waited. I got out of the car and watched the entire time, but she made me promise not o go that way again (I did have my fingers crossed though) ;)

Some fine train videos shared here. I know my brother and I had a train set as a child. Here lately I would be more like one of my heroes, although I admit that Fester is my favorite and who I am most like. :)

That was my favorite part of the Addams Family!! When friends ask me if I'm going to ever do an Addams Family Train Wreck - I always respond with, - "maybe with YOUR trains"! HA HA :D
